Body Transformation Challenge – Days 13 – 25
Wow, I can’t believe it’s already been 13 days since my last body transformation challenge update.
After the first two weeks I decided that keeping track of everything I was eating, as in taking pictures of every meal and documenting it on my Blog is redundant since I eat a lot of the same meals and honestly the tracking was starting to interfere with my life too much so I decided to eliminate most of it.
There are still a few things I track daily as I feel it helps me to stay accountable and I like to document the process of my body transformation.
Firstly, I track my weight every morning when I wake up. I have an excel spreadsheet where I track it because I want to know exactly what I weigh on each day.
Secondly, I am taking a front view and side view picture every day as well.
You can see my daily body transformation pics here.
Besides those two things I also take pictures of the foods I eat from time to time, but I’m no longer doing it for every meal. It’s way too tedious and was starting to really cut into my schedule. It just started to feel like all I’m doing all day is cooking and taking photos and writing things down all day long.
I still do have some nice pictures for you guys from my first carb night and a few other meals I’ve made.
Learning from Carb Nights
I started off my first carb night with this pasta I cooked from one of my wife’s recipes. Her recipe just calls for bacon bits, but I modified it by adding in some organic chicken to get a bit more protein into the meal.
This pasta dish was the very first carb-rich meal I had for 10 days and it tasted absolutely incredible. I would go as far as saying that it was the best pasta dish I probably ever had, LOL. It’s amazing how the body loves carbs, and after 10 days of ultra low carb eating my body just wanted to inhale this stuff. It tasted sooooo good.
A bit later on in the evening, I also had this blueberry pie with organic ice-cream (blueberry and strawberry flavors). I ate the ice-cream, but I only took a small tiny bite of the blueberry pie. It tasted way too sweet for me to finish it. It looked good at the store, but honestly I had zero appetite for it. The pasta tasted way better, which is totally weird for me because on any other day I would have loved this blueberry pie.
Later on in the evening I had this slice of pumpkin pie. Pumpkin pie is like one of my favorite pies in the world. When my wife makes them for Thanksgiving, I have been known to make a whole pie disappear in a day.
I was a bit surprised to also see that this pumpkin pie tasted too sweet for me. It wasn’t anywhere near as bad as the blueberry pie, but it also didn’t taste as good as I imagined it would.
That is actually something I am really learning while being on this Carb Nite® Solution diet. A lot of foods that we fantasize about which we can’t have while on a diet actually aren’t anywhere near as good as we think they are.
The fantasies we create in our minds about these foods are way better then the foods themselves. This is actually starting to make me realize that the idea of having one night every five to seven days where you can have the carbs you crave is pretty brilliant because it exposes the lies our mind tries to convince us are true.
Meaning, after that night I haven’t had a craving for blueberry or pumpkin pie again. I tasted them, I didn’t feel ANY guilt eating them because I know they are part of the diet plan, and after that night I haven’t craved them again.
Another example of this is what happened on my second carb night. When I went to the movies in the middle of last week, my sister and brother-in-law ended up getting popcorn and pop to drink while at the movie. Just smelling the popcorn made me want to have some really bad, because popcorn always smells good at the theaters. Since it wasn’t a carb night for me though I didn’t have popcorn or pop to drink, but it made my mind want those things because I couldn’t have them.
On my second carb night the following Sunday I went to see another movie and this time I decided to order popcorn and pop, even though technically pop is one thing I’m supposed to stay away from even on carb nights. I didn’t care because I knew that the fantasy of pop-corn and pop that was in my mind was much greater than reality and I wanted to get rid of that fantasy.
The popcorn itself tasted OK, but as predicted nowhere near as good as I thought it would taste based on the fantasy in my mind. The Coke I was drinking though tasted pretty crappy. Since by this time I had been drinking nothing but water with lemon in it for 17 days, when I took a sip of the Coke it tasted like syrup to me. Once again, the fantasy in my mind was way better than the reality. I haven’t craved popcorn and Coke since.
The coolest thing I like about this diet is that it is so much easier to stick to a diet when you don’t deny yourself anything forever. Meaning, if I hadn’t had that pumpkin pie on my first carb night, I would still probably be craving pumpkin pie and each day I would be waking up and growing resentful that my “stupid diet” doesn’t allow me to enjoy life to the fullest. Instead, by having that carb night where I can indulge in some of my previous favorites, it makes it so much easier to stick to my diet on non carb night days.
Progress So Far
As always you can check out my body transformation page where I upload my daily pictures and weight loss stats for the latest updates, but so far I have lost 10.80lbs since starting this competition. My weight loss in the last week or so has slowed down in comparison to the first week on my diet, but I was totally expecting that as weight loss is always biggest in the beginning of any diet.

Ok, when we’re done the challenge you gotta teach me about the Carb nights. I’m dying over here.

Great pictures Paul, the pasta dish looks so good! And I completely attest to your mind making food taste better than it actually is.
When my illness started, I was put on a full liquid diet. And when I was taken off of that, I was put on a completely bland diet for about 8-10 months. No spices, or seasonings. Gluten free, Soy, Rice, etc..No breading on foods. I spent most of my days, browsing food blogs like GrubGrade and FoodGawker, looking at the ‘enticing’ images.
After my surgery, I was able to basically eat EVERYTHING. I could even eat buffalo wings, salad, and FRESH FRUITS! All of which I was denied for almost a year. Man, I’m telling you it was like heaven! These days, I have been eating fairly normally for about 2 years, and my life feels pretty normal. I criticize the taste of fruits, buffalo wings, salads, etc..
It’s amazing how our minds play tricks on us, and then revert back to their normal state once we get what we want. Very frustrating. In the same sense, I forget all of the physical pain that I went through. Sometimes I have to remind myself when I’m frustrated about the little things. I wish I wrote some kind of in depth note, or voice message to myself when I was in the hospital. But when I remember back, I realize that all of these daily problems aren’t really as bad as they seem. It’s just our good ol’ mind playing tricks on us.
Thanks,
Josh.

Well i am too much health conscious and i don`t like junk food too much. i think this food contain too much oil and too much fat. but i will tried it for once. the thing is that when i eat then i always take time to proper analysis the food. as all says i am a complete Moderator of the Foods
Fascinating, thank you! I spent my childhood in Yorkshire in the UK, and I’ve been trying to find a recipe for this tasyy pie I remember eating all the time, but can’t remember what we called it!!! Do you know any famous pie recipes from Yorkshire?
I have been on no dessert diets before (only eating fruit for sweetness), (and I have a HUGE sweet tooth), and I have found a similar thing. When I come off the diet or allow myself to eat desserts again such as cookies or chocolates, they do taste quite sweet to me. I was surprised to be satisfied with just eating strawberries or watermelon for dessert..
