Body Transformation Challenge – Days 10, 11 and 12

Written by Paul Piotrowski - Saturday, October 30th, 2010

The last three days of this body transformation challenge have been mostly about experimenting with different foods and food combinations.

Now that I’m cooking every day, I’m trying out different ways of cooking and different ways to use very simple ingredients to create something that fits within my current diet and that tastes good.

Cooking every day presents it’s own problems as well, such as constantly doing dishes.  I am only cooking for myself, but the amount of dishes I now have to do is almost the same as if I was cooking for four people.

One of the challenges is that a lot of these meals are not really something I can pre-cook ahead of time and then re-heat.

I mean I’m not going to pre-cook a steak and then re-heat it in the microwave or something.  If I’m going to be eating organic tenderloin steak, I want it fresh off the grill. :)

I will get better at this, and I will figure out which stuff I can pre-cook ahead of time in batches, but as far as the last three days are concerned it’s been a lot of cooking, cooking, cooking followed by dishes, dishes, dishes.

I would say that besides sugar addiction, which is a huge factor, this aspect of constantly having to cook is the primary reason why people don’t eat a whole foods diet.

It’s just too much work for most people to spend the day constantly cooking and cleaning the dishes.

In the 1950′s the stereotypical household had the wife staying home and cooking/cleaning all day, while the husband went to work and brought home the bacon.  In the world we live today, the typical household has both partners in a couple working full time just to make ends meet and so food becomes all about shortcuts.

That is why our fridges and cupboards are filled with pre-packaged, pre-cooked, 5 minute meals you pop into the microwave rather than fresh, wholesome ingredients used to cook real meals.

A lot of people say that they eat crappy foods because they taste good.  I don’t believe that to be true.

The foods I’ve been eating for the last 12 days are much tastier than the crap I was eating before.  It’s not that healthy food tastes bad, it actually tasted better than crap food.

The challenge is that healthy food takes time to prepare!

As a Blogger and Internet Marketer I am lucky worked hard to be able to work from home, so I have the luxury to run upstairs and make my lunch in a real kitchen before descending back to my cave to do more work, but a lot of people work in offices where the only tools they have at their disposal is a coffee maker and a microwave.

Yet, regardless of your situation there are always going to be excuses and strategies for overcoming those excuses once you are ready to make a change.

Nobody said it was going to be easy. :)

It is going to be worth it in the long run though.

Food

I’ve been snapping pics of some of the food combinations I’ve been testing out in the last few days.

Some tasted better than others.  I’m just experimenting to learn what my taste buds like, not to mention the fact that I’m still learning how to cook.

Also, some of the meals combinations were put together based on what I had left over in the fridge, not exactly based on what I wanted. :)

Either way, here are some of the things I’ve been eating.

Oh, by the way, the eggs, steak and bacon are all organic from the organic store I went to last week.  They all tasted awesome so I’m going back for more this week.

Progress

Progress has been pretty good.

As of Friday morning (Day 12) I was down to 207.2 lbs which is a total weight loss of 9.4lbs in 12 days.  As anticipated my average weight loss pace has dropped down to approx 0.78lbs / day from it’s peak on day 9 which was at about 0.98lbs / day.

This is consistent with what I’ve seen in the past on any kind of diet.  Quick losses in the beginning as the body sheds some toxins, excess salts and some water weight coming off a crap diet, followed by a more steady slower paced fat loss per day.

There is something different about this diet though, which you will find out about in the next few days though.  It’s something I’ve never done before, and I’m really curious how it affects my weight loss progress in comparison to what I’ve done in the past.

Stay tuned for more.

As always, I’ll be posting my latest weight and body pics on my Body Transformation page.

it is really good that you are making progress in your challenge but one question is arising from my mind that you have already participate in the challenge in diet before and you are successful complete it and win at it. and than you gain the weight again. in my opinion we are living in our daily life according to the subconscious mind habit or called beliefs but you have already done the Psych-K workshop (and you have praised this workshop for removing the limiting beliefs) which help to remove the limiting beliefs about maintaining the health and exercise routine and if the limiting beliefs are remove than it is easy to maintain the health and weight habits and i am sure that you have already remove the limiting beliefs which is stopping you to gain the weight again but you are gained the weight. this question puzzling me. if the limiting beliefs has been eliminated than it is easy to maintain the health habits and remove the addiction of sugar than how can you gain the weight. you are also living life with the subjective reality and in my opinion subject reality is a very powerful tool and it completely changed the life of the person. it is really surprise for me. can you put some light on this question.

Very good question. Allow me to explain.

Beliefs are strongly connected to our values. Values work in a hierarchy. Meaning, what we value in life falls into a hierarchy of things that we value the most down to things that we value the least.

One of my biggest values is personal development and being a wealth-building entrepreneur. The majority of my energy is dedicated to those values. Typically our values come from those things we perceived to lack the most when we were children. We didn’t grow up with a lot of monetary wealth, so I developed a lot of value for building wealth. Health on the other hand was never really an issue. Except for most of the typical childhood diseases that all kids get, I never really had any problems with my health and I was always skinny growing up so eating healthy to lose weight is not a very huge value for me. Making money always wins out over losing weight.

When I put together the weight loss challenge with Tyler Cruz, I put money on the line – $600 – to help me raise the value of my healthy eating UP my values scale. I am also very competitive in such friendly situations, so winning was very important to me. So effectively what I did was I used money and competition to turn eating healthy from something that’s not of big importance to me, to something very important. And it worked! Except that after the competition, I failed to make a post-competition plan for how to keep eating healthy high on my values list and so it slid down to being not very important and once again other activities started becoming more important.

My goal this time is to do the competition, lose the weight, and then keep it off because I’m making a plan that goes beyond the competition. Also, by getting around Debby who has Health/Fitness as her #1 highest value/priority in life, her energy is rubbing off on me and moving health/fitness up my priorities list.

You understand that I have the ability to physically eat healthy. You understand that my beliefs are not the problem. And you understand the concept of subjective reality. What you’re missing in your equation to understand what has been happening is the role that VALUES play in the equation. Values determine where we put our energy in life, and previously health/fitness were pretty low on my values list.

Those are some super sized portions, Paulie.
Congrats on the weight loss, but damn!

LOL. It’s an optical illusion. I have three different plate sizes that all look the same in the pictures. Meaning, in the pictures the smallest side plate looks like a big plate which makes the food portion on it look huge. I’m not really sure how to avoid that besides putting a ruler in the photos like they do in crime photos, lol.

Look at the three bacon strips on the side plate. Then look at the three bacon strips on the large plate with the eggs. See how much bigger the big plate is? Well, the ham and spinach scramble is on a side plate, not on the big plate. LOL. When I look at the pics it looks I ate 12 eggs in one sitting!!! LOL.

lol I was wondering the same thing about that actually! Either way its pretty sweet looking at all these various meals that you are eating, just the variety alone must make the challenge more fun. Great to see progress though on your weight loss!

        Till then,

        Jean

Your cooking looks really good. Yeah, I don’t like cooking also, the most difficult part is doing the dishes afterward.

Try the IM Diet. Intermittent Fasting. Don’t worry about what you eating or you will be focusing on FOOD all day long, thats bad!
Instead just don’t eat until evening meal and only eat inside 2 hour window.
That way you will still be able to socialise, eat out etc.
Not eating all day is hard at first, I drink coffee, tea and sugar free juice.
I can see my six pack after just 5 weeks, Its always been there below the layer of fat.

You need to just create a new way of living, and not a diet. You don’t need all these special meals to lose weight. You just need portion control and some exercise. Eat whatever you want. If you want french fries, eat french fries. Just get a small or kids size instead. In between meals eat fruits and veggies. If you go out to eat, and your plate has a steak, veggies and pasta on it – eat the veggies first. If you over- haul EVERYTHING, at ONCE (by that I mean 360 diet change and strict exercise regime) you’ll be successful at first, then get over whelmed and gain it all back. Change one little thing (like go for a 30 min. walk), then after a while change another thing (eat veggies at every meal)… All this will accomplish 2 things, changing your life style permanently (not temperately ) and prevent cravings.

Portion control and exercise doesn’t work for me, and I have never met anyone who has lost weight by watching their portions and exercising. I do know a lot of people (including me) who have gained a lot of weight trying to do just that.

It’s kind of like trying to quit smoking by gradually reducing the amount of cigarettes you smoke per day. In theory it sounds great, but it never works. I never smoked but I’ve known many people who just tried to “reduce” their smoking habit away and it didn’t work. The only thing that finally worked for them was to just DECIDE “I do not smoke” and go cold turkey and never touch another cigarette ever again.

The best way to prevent food cravings is to get rid of you addiction to them. The way I’m eating right now on this diet I am not feeling hungry at all. If anything I get full so quickly.

What you’re describing is kind of a theory of reducing your calorie intake. Meaning, it doesn’t matter if you eat french fries or anything else, but just limit the amount of calories going in per day and you’ll be fine. Kiefer’s book explains why Calorie reduction diets never work out long term.
