Savage Flux HP First Run – The Paulymath Show – Episode 04

Written by Paul Piotrowski - Thursday, August 12th, 2010

Since I’ve now decided to live my life according to the Life Mastery Path I wrote about a few days ago, I thought what better way to embrace this new change than to start mastering the Relaxation / Joy / Fun part of my life.

Typically when I want to relax or have some fun, I’ll do something low key like going to see a movie or ordering something on pay-per-view.  I used to also play video games quite a bit but I haven’t been doing a lot of that lately.  It’s interesting how when I worked at a job I always thought that once I start working on my own I’ll create way more time for myself to play video games and to just have fun, but really since quitting my job and starting to work on my own in January of 2009 I haven’t really taken any breaks to enjoy life and have fun.

I know part of that is due to the fact that I love what I do now so much that work isn’t really work for me, it’s more like play.  I love the feeling of being productive, while at the same time enjoying what I do so it’s easy to find myself always working on something.  However, lately I’ve been realizing the importance of creating space and time in your life where you completely disengage from work – even if you enjoy your work like I do.

By taking time to fully disengage from work, it makes you way more productive when you are engaged.  This is why I decided to start my new Life Mastery Path approach to life by focusing on the Relaxation / Joy / Fun part of life which is a category of life that almost always gets left for last when I do planning.

A couple of days ago I went to visit my friend Seb, who runs Seb’s RC Shop in Port Coquitlam, BC, which is about 30 minutes away from my place.  Seb’s passion for RC Cars is very infectious.  We used to work together years ago when I ran a web development company and even then Seb was into RC cars and RC car racing.  When the tech industry took a dive years ago Seb decided to pursue his passion for RC’s and started working for an RC shop and later ended up opening up his own.

I always applaud people who pursue the path of the entrepreneur so any time I’ve got the itch to see what’s new in the RC car industry I always go visit Seb at his shop for the latest scoop.  If you’re local here in the Greater Vancouver area, and thinking about possibly getting into RC cars, trucks, airplanes or helicopters, Seb’s store carries all of those types of RC products.

HPI Savage Flux HP Monster Truck

I’ve never really been much into RC Car racing.  I more enjoy the hobby of building the RC cars and trucks and then bashing them in my back yard or a field somewhere.

Because of this I’ve always been a fan of off-road trucks and truggies.  My younger brother Bart turned me onto the HPI Savage line of monster trucks years ago and I used to have a Nitro powered Savage X monster truck, but honestly it mostly just sat around and collected dust because I just couldn’t get into nitro powered RC cars.

I liked the electric ones when I used to play with on-road cars, but for off-road RC’s the big thing used to be Nitro engines due to the power they had.  That’s why I previously had both a Nitro engine powered monster truck and truggy, but neither of them got more than 5 runs.  In fact the truggy didn’t even get one run.  I built it but never ran it because I just didn’t like fiddling with the Nitro engines.

That’s why when I went to visit Seb I was really excited to hear about the fact that in the last year especially most RC cars, trucks and truggies have completely moved to electric now.  This is due to the fact that electric brushless motors are now so powerful that they easily compete and outperform Nitro engines, and also because RC car battery technology has finally caught up with Lithium Polymer (LiPo) batteries that provide incredible power while at the same time giving you good run times so you don’t have to be constantly charging your batteries.

Both of these technologies have dropped in price significantly in the last few years and that’s brought electric back into the off-road RC market.

So, after doing some research I found out that HPI Racing has come out with two versions of their Savage line of monster trucks – the HPI Savage Flux HP and it’s “little brother” the HPI Savage Flux 2350.  Both of these trucks are insanely powerful and fast, but I decided to go for the Savage Flux HP and leave the Savage Flux 2350 for my little brother to get. :)

Anyway, I got the truck on Tuesday and my brother Bart and our friend Tracey came over to shoot some videos of the first run.  I just finished editing it now and posted it to YouTube.

Check out my latest toy.  After the first run I already know I’m going to do a heck of a lot more bashing with this one than I did with my Nitro powered ones. :)

Hey Paul, I love the introduction to your video show, really well done and it looks super professional too! The monster truck that I had, that I used to play with about 2-3 years ago looks so weak compared to that bad boy you’ve got on your hands! :D

    Till then,

.-= used tires´s last blog ..Is it good to buy used tires =-.

  2. Heh watched the video, you should add some Initial-D (anime about street racing) style soundtrack to it. I wish I had the fine motor coordination to use remote control vehicles but anything I get my hands on usually ends up busted up into little bits on the ground. I also agree with “used tires” your intro is pretty slick pauly. Maybe if I ever cross over into video I’ll have something like that.

  3. Hi please pardon my english, I am using Google translate so I might understand something wrong. I found your article on Blog directory “Savage Flux HP First Run – The Paulymath Show – Episode 04 | Paulymath.com” was essentially close to what I was search for, but after reading through your story I still was not able locate straight-forward answer to my puzzle and this is driving me crazy. I like your website and think it is honestly handy but I think you could make it even better if you polish your blog search to make it easier for visitors to find required information within your website. You can do it very easy by adding WordPress addon… If I am not mistaken it was called “Search Everything” it has a lot of useful features like searching pages, search attachments. If you need help about adding enhanced website search you can always reach me at Holey82@live.com Thank you I hope you have a outstanding day
