Reality Shifting

Written by Paul Piotrowski - Thursday, May 20th, 2010

reality_shiftingI’ve been experimenting with something that I can only describe as “reality shifting”.

The idea behind reality shifting is based on scientific theories related to the existence of parallel universes and alternate realities.  I’m not even going to bother talking about the science of it as it’s largely theoretical and boring for most people, but if you’re interested in the science around it you may want to read books related to string theory, holographic universes etc.

Instead I’d like to talk about it more from a subjective point of view from my personal experiences.

The concept works like this.  Whenever I encounter a situation in my life that isn’t exactly how I like it, I don’t “believe” it to be that way just because my five senses tell me it is so, instead I quickly shift into asking myself “What do I really want here?”

I’ve been experimenting and playing with this for a couple of weeks now and having a lot of fun with it.

Reality Shifting Examples

Probably the easiest way for me to explain what I’m talking about is to offer some examples.

Early Examples

The first example of this phenomenon that I can remember happened way back in high-school.  I remember one day in computer science class, watching a friend of mine trying to get something working on her computer.  She ran a piece of software she had written and it didn’t work.  I was standing behind her when she did this and I saw exactly what she did to produce the error – which was basically just to run the program.  I sat down at her computer to try to figure out what the problem was, so I ran the program to see what kind of error message pops up.  When I ran the software, however, it worked fine.

I hadn’t changed anything, not a single line of code, nothing.  All I did was to do the exact same thing she did, which was to type in the run command and hit Enter.  It was really weird.  I half-jokingly said “It must be my energy” and walked away.

If this was an isolated case, it wouldn’t be that exciting, but after high-school I worked as a computer tech for a while and that kind of thing would happen a lot.  People’s computers wouldn’t work, until they brought them to me and when I tried doing the exact same thing they did, their machine would start working.  Not always, of course, sometimes there were problems with their machines, but it was pretty common for the “computer bug” to disappear in my presence – to the utter frustration of the clients, who swore that it was broken before they brought it in. :)

I wasn’t doing any kind of conscious “reality shifting” at that point, but it was just a quirky little phenomenon I observed growing up.  I seem to have an energy around computers that just makes them work.  My wife, on the other hand, had a streak of the opposite where she could literally just sit beside a computer and it would “blow up” (not literally).  In fact, she’s got her own computer in another room and except on very rare occasions I don’t like her using my computer. Her energy is just too powerful. :)

This is all unconscious and unintentional stuff though so let me give you some more examples that I’ve been playing with intentionally in the recent while.

Car Rental Example

Yesterday, my wife was looking up car rental rates for a trip she’s taking next month.  The rental website was giving her a certain rental rate for booking a car in June and double the rate for July based on the quote she was getting.  Because of this she wanted to rent a car in June and pay for it with cash, and then use my Aeroplan miles to book the car in July since it’s the same amount of Aeromiles regardless which month you book.  Her belief was that “Cars cost more to rent in July because it’s peak season“, which of course makes total perfect sense.

That didn’t resonate with me.  I felt it would be better to book the car with my Aeroplan miles first (in June), and then if she still needs a car after that in July, she could rent paying with cash.  The thing is that when she goes on her trip, beyond the first few weeks she won’t know if and when she will need a car until she’s actually there, so to me it made more sense to use the Aeroplan miles up first for her June rental.  However, this didn’t make sense dollars wise since paying for a car rental in July was double compared to June.

Anyway, I didn’t like these options.  It was not the perfect option that I wanted to create.  So I created a new belief that didn’t go against hers, but just kind of augmented it.  My new belief was “There is a specific day that car rental rates go up, and if you rent a car the day before that day, you can lock in the lower rate.”  So I sat down at her computer and I played around with the dates a bit on the rental, and I was able to “shift” things into a totally different “story”.  All of a sudden, she was able to rent a car in July for pretty much the exact same price as June simply by renting it a few days before she originally punched in.  Problem solved.

Restaurant Example

Another example was when we went out to Red Robin for dinner last night.  My wife and I arrived and I wanted to sit in one of the big booths they have at the restaurant but the place was pretty busy.

I said to the hostess “There’s only two of us, but do you have any of the big booths available?”

She looked around, looked on her sheet and said, “No, sorry we don’t have any available right now.”

The second she said that, I thought about sitting at one of the tables with the uncomfortable chairs or in one of the mini booths and I thought to myself “I don’t want this.  What do I really want?  I would like to sit in one of the big booths.  There has to be one available for us.”

I stood there silently thinking this in my head, while she stared at me wondering if I heard what she said.  I didn’t respond.

Two seconds later, she turned around again, looked at her map, looked back again, said “Excuse me for one second” and she walked over to look at one of the booths.  A couple of seconds after that, she ran back and said “Ohp, sorry, I lied there is a booth available for you.“  We sat and ate dinner in one of the comfy booths that somehow “magically” became available just a few seconds after she declared there were none.

Livescribe Pen Example

Another example happened last week when I called a local retailer to ask them if they had a Livescribe Pen in stock.  It was the closest retailer to my home that should carry that product according to the manufacturer’s website.  I called to find out if they had any in stock at the store.

I called in and spoke to a rep there, and asked him if they have the specific item in stock.  He put me on hold and went to check the shelves.  About 3 minutes later he came back on the phone and said that unfortunately they didn’t have any of those in stock.  I didn’t like that.  It didn’t fit in with my plans of popping by there to pick one up. :)

So I quickly asked myself “What do I want? I want this pen to be in stock at this location because it is closest.

Now, there always has to be a “logical” explanation for the other person involved in order for this to work, so I didn’t just tell the guy “Listen buddy, you’re wrong, check again!“  You don’t want to be fighting anyone on their beliefs.  It’s much easier to align with them but to create another story that works for you as well.  So the story I created in my mind is that he’s not seeing the item because I’m calling it by a different name.

So I said to him “Could you check for me which of your other locations have the Pulse Pen in stock?”  This time I changed the name from “Livescribe Pen” to “Pulse Pen”.  The actual product is a “Pulse Livescribe Pen”.  Pulse is the company that makes it.

He said “Sure, what’s it called again?” and I said “Pulse Pen”.  He typed it into the computer and said “Oh wait a minute, that one I do have in stock, one second.

He came back on the phone and said “Oh yeah, Pulse Livescribe Pen, yeah I have those in stock.  Sorry, you gave me the wrong name the first time.:)

I created a situation where I still got what I wanted (the pen) and he could continue living his reality where he wasn’t “wrong” to believe that they didn’t have it in stock.

Other Examples

I could write for days with dozens of examples of this, but it would be way more fun for you to experiment with it yourself.  Here are some tips I can share with what I’ve figured out with this so far.

Reality Shifting Tips

Make it Possible

First of all, depending on your belief systems, make the possibility of shifting from one version of “reality” to another, simply based on your intention possible.  Work within the current belief system you already believe in to look at proof of reality shifting being possible.

For example, if you are a highly scientific person who places a lot of faith into science, read books on Quantum Theory, String Theory, Parallel Universes etc.  The point here is not to prove that shifting from one reality to another is possible, but rather to just open yourself up to the possibility that it could be possible.

If you can’t even fathom the possibility of it, it’s going to be hard to make it work.

Expect the “Out”

Always expect that there will be an “out” with every situation.  What I mean by that is that there will always supposedly be a “logical” explanation of what just happened, which you create simultaneously along with the intention you desire to create.  Meaning, for most of us, we don’t want our current reality to “break”, so whenever we create anything like this which kind of undermines the very fabric of our world, we will always simultaneously create explanations for such phenomena because we don’t want our reality to end.

It’s kind of like having a lucid dream.  When we ‘wake up’ in our dream, and become lucid, we don’t want to really “wake up” from the dream.  We want to stay in the dream, while at the same time playing around with what is possible within the dream.  It’s the same thing with our waking life.  We always have the desire to keep this world “as is”, and that desire/intention is stronger than almost any other intention we can create so always expect there to be an “out” with everything.

For example, there is a perfectly logical explanation that I can create for how the car rental prices changed.  There is an explanation for how a booth became available, seconds after the girl told me there were none.  There is an explanation for how the employee at the retailer I called didn’t “see” the product I was asking for on the shelf.

There will always be an “out” until one day you evolve to the point when you no longer create “outs” for yourself.  I don’t even look for them anymore.  I know if I did they would be there, but why waste my energy looking when I already know I’ll just manifest the “out” the second I start looking for it.

Expect an “out” and be OK with it.  This is about getting what you want in a specific situation, not about “proving” that the universe is an illusion.

Don’t Fight Beliefs

In order to make it easier to “shift” things, don’t fight any beliefs that already exist in the situation.  If someone in the situation already believes something to be true, find another belief that still gets you what you want without invalidating the other person’s belief.

I didn’t try to prove the retail employee wrong by saying “Listen you idiot, I’m sure you have the pen in stock, so go look again!“  I created a belief that still got me what I wanted, without that employee being wrong.

Whatever the situation is, try to inject a simple “story” into it that will make it work in  your favor.  If something is “sold out” at a store, don’t argue with that.  Instead maybe create a story in your mind about there being inventory in the “back room” that hasn’t been received yet, or a story about a delivery truck that just arrived a few minutes ago containing the inventory you want.

Get creative with it.

Have Fun With It

Experiment with small, seemingly unimportant things first.  Don’t try to shift reality to one where you have a billion dollars in your bank account.  Start small and work your way up.  The more the outcome doesn’t really matter, the more likely it will shift and work out for you.

However, don’t just pick things out of the blue that you don’t really want/desire/intend to manifest.  I *did* want to sit in a booth at the restaurant.  I *did* want to purchase that pen.  I don’t just dream up of random thing that I don’t really want or care about just to prove that this works.

Use it for real stuff that is actually happening in your life, not just to experiment for the sake of proving something to your mind.  It probably won’t work for that.

Keep a Journal

If you keep a journal, I highly recommend writing down any situations where things seemed to “shift” instantly as soon as you didn’t accept the first result.  The more attention you pay to it, the more you’ll create it in your life.  I’ve especially been paying attention to this for the last few weeks and the frequency of the events that happen has been increasing.

Good luck and enjoy!

So wait, are you saying you “reality shifted” a pen from an alternate universe to this one? What happens in the “other universe”?

All the examples sound like simple coincidences and misunderstandings with people, human error. The piece of software that worked on your pc and not an another could simply be because of different compiler software or any nr of other explanations.

If another couple came in after you in the restaurant, would they be able to reality shift another comfortable table? And another couple? And another couple?

If you can show me you reality shifted your car to a ferrari then I’ll believe you ;)

Hope you don’t find this offensive, just a bit baffled is all. I joined inspiredmoneymaker, and ever since you joined the blogs, I sometimes can’t resist commenting on some of these posts. Still an interesting read.

@Wesley: I didn’t have to “shift” a pen from an alternate universe to this one. I simply shifted *myself* into a version of reality where that pen was in stock at the location I wanted.

The software example wasn’t moved from her machine to mine, it was on her machine both times. She ran it, and it didn’t work. A minute later I sat at her computer, ran the software using the exact command she typed in and it worked. Nothing was changed. The computer wasn’t rebooted, the software wasn’t altered, the exact same command she used I used. The only difference was that I was sitting in front of the computer vs. her sitting at it. I know it makes no logical sense.

I do not concern myself with what would happen to “another couple” that walked into the restaurant. That’s their problem, not mine. My intention was for me to have a comfy booth, not to “prove” that this works for everyone.

If I shifted my car to a Ferrari you wouldn’t believe me. How would I capture such an event? If I took a picture of my current car, and then a picture of a Ferrari you would claim that it’s not my car. If I took a picture of me sitting in a Ferrari you would claim that it was taken at a car show, or that it’s a friend’s Ferrari, or that I rented a Ferrari for the picture. Even if I showed you proof that I own a Ferrari, you would just say that I bought one. If I showed you a video of my car “shifting” from my current car into a Ferrari, you would claim that it’s fancy video editing.

The only way for you to see “proof” of this is to experiment with it on your own in your own life, if you so wish. There’s nothing I can do “over here”, that will ever prove to you “over there” that this is real.

Also, I can never manifest anything in YOUR reality that goes against your beliefs. It’s not my intention or right to do that. That would kind of be like some religious person banging on your door trying to “prove” to you that their beliefs are right and your beliefs are wrong.

For as long as you have the limiting belief of “I’ll believe it when I see it.” you’ll only be limited to ‘seeing’ that which you already believe to be possible. If you relax your current beliefs a bit and detach from them, you will see that in reality “You’ll see it when you believe it” is a lot closer to the truth.

Has there ever been something in your life that you totally believed to be true, and then later found out to be totally false?

Every friend I’ve ever had that hangs out with me in person, regardless how skeptical they are to start with, has seen this crazy stuff I talk about which most people would consider “woo woo stuff”. If you flew down here and spent a month hanging out with me, with an open mind, you would leave a different person. I can’t prove these things over the internet, but in person they’re quite easy to prove.

When I was at the PSYCH-K event this weekend, for example, I was just as skeptical about it working as you are. I wanted to experience PROOF that it works, otherwise I wouldn’t believe it. There was an event that happened on Saturday that my mind/ego had a LOT of trouble accepting at first and fought it like crazy. See my mind was skeptical and I had a lot of doubt that this stuff works. However, my instructor’s certainty that it does work was far greater than my uncertainty in it. So I followed her instructions to the letter to see what would happen and for the longest time nothing happened. My mind was screaming for me to give up and go home. But I wouldn’t let that happen. I didn’t want to leave there unsure if PSYCH-K works or not, so I forced myself to do the exercise as instructed and wait until something happened.

It took forever (well what seemed like forever, but which was only about 15mins, LOL), and then all of a sudden everything changed. I experienced something that can’t be explained in normal terms. You can have similar experiences if you’d like as well. Just seek out teachers who teach things like this and go attend some workshops even if you don’t really believe in that stuff.

I didn’t really believe in psychic stuff until I got psychic readings. I didn’t really believe in Reiki until I took my Reiki classes. I didn’t really believe in muscle testing until I went to a naturopath who used it. I didn’t really believe in chiropractic care until I went to see a chiropractor.

See, my mind is just as skeptical as yours or anyone else. The difference is though that I go out there and test the stuff myself instead of just listening to mainstream media. If you went out and tested some of this stuff out, I’m sure you’d find out that a lot of your current beliefs are inaccurate as is with anyone.

I see you have been experimenting with some psych theories. I like your restaurant example. I can totally see that working. I use to have a friend who 90% of the time when she wanted something she did things similar to your mind (restaurant) example, and she got what she wanted. I think personality plays a role in this too…I think I might try experimenting with this a little..

  6. yep nice work again paul, My father has faced the kind of scrutiny that your are facing from Wesley. There is a lakota (sioux) ceremony known as a Yuwipi in the lakota language. In the ceremony the leader ( many poeple call him Shaman, we don’t particularly care for that word but it’s just semantics). Is tied with Ropes and wrapped in a blanket like a mummy, and then the lights are turned off after the ceremonial songs are sang. lights begin to flash and rattles that were placed inside the alter with him begin to move around the room, Often voices can be heard speaking very fast and eagle bone whistles being blown.there have been people over the years who have tried to prove that this ceremony in particluar is a scam because it takes place in complete darkness. They say that the “medicine man: must have 1 or more accomplices that are moving things around and making the noises, papers have been written with these accusations and yet when the skeptics come and actually experience the ceremonies for themselves, most of them leave as believers. I for one believe in other planes of existence and it would seem that most people in americ do s well as the last statistics I saw on the subject showed that over 70% of people polled believed in God and heaven.

@Paul: Is it important to polarize towards either giving or receiving in order for the shift to be quick and powerful? I.e. you want to help your wife, or, you want a new pen. Or is that only important for long term changes?
.-= Thomas W.´s last blog ..What Is The Best Tomato Spacing? =-.

    • Paul PiotrowskiNo Gravatar says:

@Paul: If you’re referring to Steve Pavlina’s definition of “Polarizing”, as in “Lightworker” or “Darkworker”, I have a totally different understanding of that stuff now so it’s hard for me to answer your question. The easiest explanation would be for me to say that giving/receiving is irrelevant. It is not any specific action that you “do” that matters, it is the intention behind the action that matters.

It’s not something I even really think about anymore, as I naturally by default have “positive” intentions. So to answer your question, I would say “Doesn’t matter.” in this scenario.

  8. AlokNo Gravatar says:

I haven’t experienced the reality shifting thing or didn’t noticed it but I can vouch for the computer stuff. It happens too often that something which wasn’t/isn’t working on computer seems to work fine when I try my hands on it. Now it maybe that the person who was trying maybe doing it wrong but they always claim that they did the same thing what I did and it didn’t work. Anyway I am gonna try the reality shifting experiment to see if I can make it happen.
