Blogger Weight Loss Challenge: My Preliminary Strategy

Written by Paul Piotrowski - Friday, March 12th, 2010

Now that the Blogger Weight Loss Challenge with Tyler is on, I’m working on my preliminary strategy.

I know Tyler is probably already making changes to his diet and trying to get outside to run around that lake he loves so much, but I’ve got a totally different approach.

I think this quote says it best:

“If I had eight hours to chop down a tree, I’d spend six hours sharpening my axe.”

- Abraham Lincoln

Instead of putting my running shoes on, or hitting the gym or even making any changes to my diet, I’m putting my energy towards getting my mindset right first.  I’m a big believer that if you get the mental side of things figured out first, the rest falls into place.

In this video I’m going to go over the first two steps I’m taking in this challenge.  One is a life planning process I’m going to follow and the other is a neat little product I got sent for review a few weeks ago.

By the way, yes that was my dog Zoe barking in the background halfway through the video.  She has the psychic ability to know when I’m recording a video and she likes to bark right in the middle of shooting.

If you’d like more info on the Tony Robbins program I mention in the video, it’s called “The Time of Your Life” and you can find it here.

If you’d like more info on the “Think and Lose” program I talk about in the video, you can find it here.

In case you’re wondering why I’m giving away my strategy even though Tyler might be watching, I’m not too worried because Tyler told me he’s not really into personal development stuff so I doubt he’ll even believe any of this stuff works.

  1. Haha, Zoe was barking for the whole end of the video. Good job with the recording, and keeping your focus throughout the barking! Best of luck with the weight loss program; I can’t wait to see how you do :) .

    Thanks,

Thanks, it wasn’t too hard. I’ve grown up with dogs. Barking doesn’t bother me. I can tune it out quite well. :)

I think it was kind of funny how I was talking about barking like a dog in the video and then you can hear Zoe barking in the background again.

i have been working in the mind aspect of weight control for a few months. i had a break through a couple of weeks ago and WOW what a difference!! I do not think of food in the same way.
I knew that the mind part of eating was the real key. Sure weight loss can be forced, but it will always come back until other issues are dealt with.
I used a lot of EFT in dealing with food issues.
My friends don’t really get it or believe it either. that’s fine – they will keep using extreme gimmicks and i’m going to coast along to my right weight!!

    Make us proud Paul!!!!

“I know Tyler is probably already making changes to his diet and trying to get outside to run around that lake he loves so much…” Hahaha… Good luck Paul, you can do this! Winning the mind over is more than half the battle.
Michelle, EFT is an excellent tool. It doesn’t matter whether people believe in it, it’s your results that matter. Keep on tapping.

Congrads on your weight loss so far Paul. Other then your mind work and martial arts, what other types of changes or strategies are you using to lose weight? Have you made any diet changes? Keep up the good work. I look forward to the next update.

@Lisa: So far, not really. I still feel like I haven’t really “started” my plan yet.

To give you an idea on the type of food I’ve been eating, this last week I had all you can eat fish and chips, steak dinner, pizza at Pizza Hut, pizza at Domino’s, McDonald’s a few times etc. As you can see I haven’t been eating healthy at all.

About the only diet change I’ve made so far has been to increase the amount of water I drink. I used to drink almost no water at all, just Coke, Iced Tea, Tea etc., but this last week I had at least one glass of water per day.

I do plan on making some dietary changes in the next week or so though to accelerate my weight loss.

  6. Ha! If I lose just one pound in this whole deal I’ll be happy. Reaching my goal would make me ecstatic.

It’s great to see that you don’t just see this as a contest, but a lifestyle change. Hopefully Tyler will too, so he doesn’t relapse again like after his last challenge.

I think one of the best things you can do is simply bring exercise into your daily life, into your office even. I have a standing desk. Bought it to help me with my neck pain, but of course it also helps me loose a few more calories. I might even upgrade it someday to a treadmill desk. (At the moment I’m using a small stepper for an hour a day). Walk while you work. It doesn’t feel like fitness and yet you’ll loose the pounds. See this group: http://officewalkers.ning.com/

Another thing you might try is some of the beachbody videos (p90, chalean extreme, p90x, etc) – They’ve already developed the 90 day plan for you, so that makes it a little easier. It’s what I’m doing right now.

Doh, I just read a few more posts from your blog and noticed you’re already in to p90X :) I’m new here, don’t blame me ;)
