Want to Beta Test My Upcoming Course?

Written by Paul Piotrowski - Saturday, February 27th, 2010

I’m looking for three to five beta testers for my upcoming Blog Business course.  The course is very much still in it’s infancy stages, but I am looking for a few people who would like to participate in testing the course as I build it.

In exchange for helping me beta test the course, the participants will of course get free access to the course materials as I create and publish them, as well as semi-private coaching and the opportunity to potentially earn some money by promoting the course as affiliates when I launch it.

Ideally I am looking for people who fit this criteria:

  • Want to build an online business centered around a Blog
  • Looking to launch or re-launch a Blog from scratch (new domain, new hosting setup etc.)
  • Willing to follow what I teach to the letter so I can better test the training
  • Have ability/desire/passion to create content, just looking for direction on how to build a solid online business
  • Possibly already have or planning to offer services, or products online
  • Preferably not someone who is a total techie or programmer as I want someone who can test the beginner level content too
  • Preferably someone comfortable with computers, word processing, taking photos etc.
  • Has high-speed Internet, email, etc.
  • Has approx. 8-16hrs/week to devote to building their online business.  (Not just for training but for assignments/building their business)

As I mentioned, I am just now starting to begin scripting out and putting together content for the course so if you’re interested, you’ll need to be patient in waiting for me to produce and publish the content.

So far I’ve got a domain registered, a CMS platform installed with membership site functionality mostly setup.  I’ve also created one video lesson so far to test some things like video encoding, hosting, editing, audio editing, etc.

The rest of the lessons I have mostly in handwritten notes across my journals so they still need to put together into scripted text for me to create video’s from.

As of right now my intention is for this course to have a lot of video content.  More than I have ever created before, so I’m still learning how to do that right now.

Another benefit to the beta group is that I will work with them as I create the course to make sure they are getting as much out of the training as possible and in a way customize the content to their needs.

I will not charge anything for the access to all the videos and course materials, but participants should be aware that they will need to register their own domain and setup hosting as part of the training.

If you’re interested, leave a comment and I’ll contact you directly via email.

  3. Paul, I would be honored if I could be a Beta Tester for this course. Here is my application:

    * Want to build an online business centered around a Blog

Yes, I am currently launching a business (will be live in March) called Optimistic Wellness, which focuses on helping people achieve a great state of wellness, even in the turmoil of their life. I want to channel what I learned in the fight with my physical disease, into helping people feel physically, mentally, and emotionally well.

    * Looking to launch or re-launch a Blog from scratch (new domain, new hosting setup etc.)

Just bought the domain name: optimisticwellness.com
Also bought a video camera, green/blue screen for videos
Hired a logo designer to help me with the business, and am currently looking to hire a wordpress developer to help me customize my theme.
    * Willing to follow what I teach to the letter so I can better test the training

Absolutely, I am a willing, excited, optimistic, and passionate student. I love what I do, and I have been a fan of your work for a few years now (I have been reading Inspired Money Maker since I was diagnosed with my physical illness)
    * Have ability/desire/passion to create content, just looking for direction on how to build a solid online business

I know a few things about online business, especially ideas/concepts from many people. However, I would need help with a step-by-step training method, which I know you are great at creating. I love writing, and I love creating interesting content. I have a website, http://www.filminsight.net. It has been up for about 1.5 years. I don’t have that many subscribers, but I still like to write. With OptimisticWellness, I am taking a very different approach. I plan to write with a different style, and use video to my advantage. I want to create my own brand and identity.

    * Possibly already have or planning to offer services, or products online

I am currently finishing up an Ebook that I plan to offer as an incentive to build my email list. I will develop products in the future, including a special type of audio meditation, that fully engages the senses. It is called Imagitation, and I have already registered the domain imagitation.com.
    * Preferably not someone who is a total techie or programmer as I want someone who can test the beginner level content too

I am a big fan of computers, and I know many applications. However, I only know a few basics about programming. I guess I am techie in some areas, but with my current skillset, I cannot program WordPress, etc. I made a web design once, and I coded it. But it turned out to be a disaster. I do have things to learn :) .

    * Preferably someone comfortable with computers, word processing, taking photos etc.
Extremely comfortable with computers. I have been using computers since the age of 3, and I am pretty much comfortable with any computer information. My learning threshold is very high.

    * Has high-speed Internet, email, etc.

Is there any other speed? :)
    * Has approx. 8-16hrs/week to devote to building their online business. (Not just for training but for assignments/building their business)

Yes; I am currently enrolled in Online School, so I have much more freedom to structure my days.

If I could become a beta tester, it would be a true honor. Thank you for reading my application, Paul. You’re very kind to offer this.

    Thanks again,
    Josh Lipovetsky.

  6. Hi Paul,
This is excellent timing! I have just completed a business plan, currently working on a WordPress site launch, and setting-up hosting with HostGator. My vision is to create the worlds largest network of Tennis Professional Coaches by offering lead generation, booking systems, and blogging platform to connect and create value to their customers. I’d be interested to chat with you further to see if you think I would be a good fit for your beta group. Also, I’d be happy to send you a pdf of my business plan if you would like to learn more.
    Thanks,
    David

  7. Paul, this is an amazing synchronicity. I have just been writing another module of a programme of a Health and Well Being Course based on Simplicity, Abundance and Natural Living and only last night I was talking to my husband-to-be about using Blogs to launch my on-line business.

I have a web site and domain hosting which I have not yet used as I want to get the material as good as possible. I fulfil all of your criteria including not being a techie at all! I have put aside the time over the next few weeks to work on this project and I would be very excited at the prospect of learning with you.

By the way I hope that your Wife and her Parents are OK.

I look forward to hearing from you.
    Best Regards
    Philippa

    Hello Paul,

I would very much be interested to beta test the Blog Business course. I have had several false starts on starting blogs and would greatly appreciate the opportunity and the challenge to perform with your coaching and guidance.

I do want to build an online business centered around a blog and am willing to follow what you teach to the letter. I have the ability, the desire, and the passion to create content and am just looking for direction from an experience multiplying expert like yourself on how to build a solid online business. I am planning to offer services and products online. While I am a total techie and a programmer by trade, I am more than happy to set on cruise control and can imagine that I would rather enjoy for once not having to do the heavy lifting so that I can test the beginner level content for you as well. I am extremely comfortable with computers, word processing, digital photography, not to mention recording digital audio and videos, and am completely at home with the associated tools, Photoshop, Premier, Protools, etc. I have Verizon FIOS at my residence (upgradable to 35Mbps/35Mbps) and reseller hosting accounts at several large, national hosting services. I have more than 8-16hrs/week to devote to building my online business and I want to be accountable for beta testing your training, the assignments and building my blog. I sincerely hope to be chosen for this distinct honor and excellent opportunity to learn from you whom I have respected followed for a very long time.

    Respectfully,

    Dominic

  9. I’d love to help, but I have just launched my blog (2 months ago) so I don’t really fit the criteria!

    Hi Paul,

I would love to be a tester for this course! In my day job, I have many opportunities to be part of test runs of workshops and courses, which requires me to be able to give specific and useful feedback– and I pride myself on always being able to give a thoughtful point of view that often provokes an “Oh! I hadn’t thought of that but that makes total sense!” response from the presenters. I’ve also been studying best practices in distance learning for my job, in order to improve our online training modules, so it’s a topic I’m already passionate about. I love the beta test part of the process and I love being able to contribute useful feedback during the tinkering phase.

I am also planning to launch a blog business as an extension of real-time work that I do as a workshop and event facilitator. I had a site for it before but it wasn’t a business really, just some random information. I teach dance as a technique for whole body-spirit connectedness and energy work, as well as teaching a philosophy of personal spiritual development centered in Love and in living a Romantic life of purpose (that’s not flowers-and-candlelight romantic per se, but capital-R Romantic as in the 19th-century philosophy). Simply put, I teach people to fall in love with the world and to open up to being loved back. I get terrific responses in person, and I want to be able to share what I do more widely than my travel schedule currently permits. =)

I have a lot of ideas for directions to take this blog in; I have a whole list of ideas for articles and posts, I want to include a calendar of in-person appearances, I want to design webinars and eventually e-books, and I want to leverage my connections with other passionate, brilliant people to do carefully-chosen affiliate promotions. But I definitely need guidance, and I could really benefit from the focus of lessons and specific assignments, because I tend to feel overwhelmed by all the steps right now.

I also wanted to add that I’m interested because, besides having been a reader here for quite a while, I also bookmarked your posts where you set up a site for remote helicopter enthusiasts, in order to show how it was done. That was incredibly useful and I saved it so that I could use it as a step-by-step aid when I set up my own site.

Regardless of whether you choose me or not, I wish you the best of luck with this and will be eagerly watching to see where it goes!

Cool idea, i’d love to help. I’ve been an avid reader of yours for about 1.5 years, and recently took your advice about keeping a journal. I love helping people, however I didn’t realize how much I had to say til I started touching pen to paper. I fit all of your criteria. I’ve been brainstorming and doing a lot of journal writing on blog ideas, but I’m still hammering out the focus of my blog. It’s called the Daily Carrot, with little tidbits of wisdom and growth, mixed in with my first experience gardening and what it’s teaching me about everything from nutrition to the wonders of the universe as my plot begins to take shape. I also wanted to mix in some sales advice, selling educational books door-to-door for 3 summers, working 80 hours a week each summer, and my recent experience selling cancer insurance door to door for over a year. I want it to be a light-hearted and funny blog, but also be quite open with my personal growth and that of others. No matter what we do with our time and energy we are selling something, ideas, products, services. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed utilizing a sales coach this past year to think outside the box, but more recently I’ve felt a greater calling to move in a new direction. I’d love the opportunity to work with you.

    Make it a great day,
    John

Aaaaaaa! So many people to choose from. Thanks everyone for replying. I’m going to read through each person’s description to get a sense for who would benefit the most from being in the first group. I’ll email the first group of people in the next few days, but if you don’t make it into my first group I will probably be letting in a second groups as well in the near future. I intuitively pick up that the ideal number of beta testers would be around 10 or so, but I’m going to start with 3-5 first and then add more later as I get at least the framework of the course figured out, like the membership site structure and settings etc.

    Hi Paul,
I’m interested in beta testing your course. I actually joined your email listing a few days ago. I’m planning to develop a blog which will be exclusively for men. It’ll be focused on help men to develop individualism and self-reliance. I ran a couple blogs before but wasn’t successful in monetizing them. I think your course can help me. I’m not a programmer so would mainly rely on a WordPress type of platform. Please let me know if you’d like to learn more. I’d be glad to speak with you personally.
    Joe

  15. Hi Paulie, great that you have so many candidates to choose your ten beta testers from! You may benefit from including a tester who has extensive copy and creative experience working on digital campaigns for some of the world’s top brands. Luckily I do fit into the newbie category, as have only recently turned my attention to digital entrepreneurialism. Please feel free to check out my site for details on my experience. I’d be happy to provide you with extensive feedback on the effectiveness of your system.

    Cheers,

    Trent

It’s not just for “noobies”. It will be for everyone, but just in the first group of beta testers I’m looking for more beginner type people to test some of my beginner content such as registering a domain, setting up hosting, installing wordpress, setting up plugins etc.

It looks like you have quite a few takers on your offer. I would like to throw my name in the hat as well.
I am a 50 year old female and I was a chiropractor for quite a few years. I fit the description of a scanner to a T, but most of my interests do revolve around natural health care and natural living. I have had a desire that I recognized about 20 years ago to do something with the massage therapy profession. I just love these people. The power of touch is so much bigger than most people recognize and so many of these therapist are gifted and talented people but they just don’t understand the business hat.
I built a very successful practice by utilizing practice building techniques that I learned throughout the years. I want to use my knowledge and expertise to empower those in the natural healing profession. I’ve written quite a bit of content but it is just setting in my word files
. Most people in my generation didn’t grow up with computers but I have taken several classes from a local community college to get my basic skills up to date. I have also taken an online course which I found challenging but learned a lot about uploading files, attachments, etc.
Paul, I feel like I have something to offer the world but I just don’t know how to do it. I also don’t have alot of money. My scanner personality has had me jumping around quite a bit over the last several years. I’ve manufactured excuse after excuse to getting this project off the ground. My fear of failure, and just waiting for some magical “it” to get started. Whatever “it” is? When I read your blog today I told myself that I was at least going to respond. I really need help!!! Pick ME!!!!

Thank you everyone for your comments and emails.

Outside of everyone who’s already commented and emailed me, at this time I will no longer be accepting any more people for beta testing. I will be choosing the beta testers from those who have already left comments and sent emails.

I haven’t selected who it will be yet, but will do so soon. I want to finish the first module of the course before I do so, so I will notify everyone as soon as that’s done.

If you haven’t received a reply to your comment or emails it doesn’t mean you won’t be let in, it just means I haven’t made the decision yet.

Thanks for your patience. I will most likely be letting in more than the 3-5 people I originally intended to since I’ve gotten so much demand for this.

  28. wow, lots of people, But if theres still a chance, count me in paul

  29. Well…don’t you know that I would find such a great opportunity after the fact! If you’re looking to expand your test team at a later date and need an “old lady” to prove that yes, you can teach an old dog new tricks – I’m your gal!

I have one web site up and running: http://www.gladeexplorers.com and three blogs non of which are making a dime…would you say that I definitely need “adult supervision?”

As one scanner to another, the best to you in all your endeavors.

    Have a great day!
