Make Money Online Sharing Your Inner Genius

Why Lightworkers Fail Online

Written by Paul Piotrowski - Thursday, January 21st, 2010

Lightbulb OffI have been meeting so many awesome people lately with very strong Lightworker energy.  I’ve been learning so much and feel like I’ve grown in leaps and bounds especially in the last two to three months just by being around their energies.

However, at the same time as I’ve been surrounding myself with more and more Lightworkers, I’ve realized certain patterns amongst them which I believe may be the cause of their frustrations and failures online.

Listening to their stories and hearing the same issues surfacing over and over again made me aware of several challenges that may be unique to Lightworkers trying to make money online and I wanted to Blog about it.

Giving Away Power

The first pattern I’ve noticed is that Lightworkers who are normally very empowered in their chosen field of spiritual specialization totally dis-empower themselves whenever Internet Marketing or anything “techie” is brought up.

It’s like they instantly shift into a dis-empowered state where they want to give away their power to some online guru, techie, or marketer.  As a Lightworker who wants to establish an online presence and an online business, you need to understand that your online presence is your responsibility, not anyone else’s.  Nobody cares about your business as much as you do, period.

Yes you can get advice, learn from and listen to internet marketers, online “guru’s”, web designers, SEO specialists, techies etc., but don’t give your power away to them.  They don’t want it.  Don’t just throw your project into their lap and run the other way expecting them to care about your “baby”.  Your online presence and business is your baby, not theirs.

Claiming Technical Ignorance

Another common thing I have found with some Lightworkers is their aversion to technology.  I totally realize that not everyone in this world needs to be a “techie” or to learn how to program websites, but so many things online today are so simplified that anyone can do it, yet some Lightworkers put up this wall and anything technically related gets blocked out before they ever give it a chance.

For example, writing a Blog post is no different than writing a document in a word processor, but until someone actually gives WordPress a shot, they don’t realize this.  Once a Blog is setup, you can run a Blog without ever writing a single line of programming code.  If you can type in a word processor, you can run a Blog.

Once again, there is nothing wrong with handing off technical things to someone who’s more adept at doing such things, but try to expand your comfort zone once in a while and give things a try.  Don’t just throw your hands up in the air and claim that you’re a “Technophobe”, giving up before you even give it a chance.

Chasing Online Get Rich Quick Schemes

This is one that I’ve just become very aware of recently. If you’re a Lightworker, I highly recommend that you pursue your Lightworker path online and don’t get mixed up with other “schemes” out there.   Meaning, don’t start out with the intention of wanting to learn how to market your brand new Reiki business online and then find yourself three months later trying to push payday loans as an affiliate marketer.  If you’re a Lightworker and you want to learn how to make money online with your business, then stick to the script.  Don’t get sucked into some online get rich quick scheme and then wonder why it’s not working.

The crazy thing is that especially with Lightworkers, it’s almost impossible for us to have any success with projects that are purely money driven.  I  know some people who are not actively pursuing the development of their Lightworker path and they can make money online doing almost anything, but for me for example if I’m trying to do something that doesn’t seem to align with my higher self, I get slapped really hard.

Meaning, when what I do online aligns with my higher self I do well and make money.  When I get side-tracked with a project that’s purely money driven, it bombs.

I find that everything comes down to intent.  It’s not that there are activities out there that are labeled as “Lightworker Work” and “Non-Lightworker Work”.  For example, I’m not saying that Lightworkers can’t become affiliate marketers, or Bloggers, or run eCommerce stores etc.  It’s not the actual “business model” that’s the problem, as much as the intent behind it.

As an affiliate marketer I have found that any campaigns that I tried to launch that were not aligned with my higher path, such as trying to promote CPA offers like rebill offers, get rich quick money online schemes, payday loans, zip submits etc. never worked out for me.  I think this is because the only reason I would ever promote those offers was to try to earn an income, not because I believed in the products being promoted.

In fact, the only real success I have seen as an affiliate marketer is promoting products that I own myself and I know they work.

For a Lightworker, intent behind the action is very important.  I know others who can promote crappy CPA offers and make money with them no problem.  However, none of them are people I would consider people who are actively and consciously pursuing a Lightworker path in their lives right now.

Ignoring Your Technical Intuition

Intuition doesn’t stop when you enter the technical world.  Use your intuition even with technical things.  If you’re talking to a Search Engine Optimization expert and he tells you about some new link exchange strategy and you don’t feel it’s right for you and your intuition is giving you the red light, listen to it! Don’t ignore your intuition just because you’ve entered the “technology zone”.

In my previous career path I was a programmer and a technology officer for a publicly traded company.  I used my intuition as a programmer just as much as I use it in any other area of my life.

I think for some reason there is this stigma that the spirit world doesn’t understand technology so it shouldn’t be allowed to weigh in on technical decisions.  That’s a pile of crap.  The spirit world is totally tuned into technology.  I know that for a fact.  I’ve used my intuitive abilities as a “techie” all my life.  I didn’t tell people that, and I didn’t label it using those words, but I used it all the time.

If something feels right to you, such as for example if you’re inspired to launch a Blog about Crystal Healing, don’t let a “techie” convince you that it’s not a good idea because keyword research shows there is no market for it.  Keyword research and all these “technical processes” out there all have a time and place to be used, but if your intuition / inspiration is screaming at you to do something, listen to it!

Not Being Authentic Online

By far I find that the biggest challenge I see amongst Lightworkers who can’t seem to make any money online is that their web presence doesn’t bring out their authentic self.  Their website hides who they really are.

As a Lightworker you need to be the face of your web presence.  You are the website, not anything else.  Your unique selling proposition is YOU.

Always be working on putting more and more of yourself across on your website.  Don’t hide your name, don’t hide your picture, don’t hide your personality.  Show yourself as much as possible.

The success of your website will be almost entirely dependent on your ability to connect with your audience authentically.

Build everything around yourself.  If you’re a Reiki healer, people will come to your site because it’s your Reiki healing, not because it’s some generic Reiki healing.

This is the best part about being a Lightworker.  There is no competition because nobody can be exactly like you.

Fear of Success

I find that a lot of Lightworkers also have a deeply rooted fear of success that comes too quickly.  It’s like they are afraid that if they put together a web presence that’s too good they’ll attract way too much business, way too may clients and be forced to grow at a rate much faster than they are comfortable with.

Most Lightworkers have at some point in their lives gone through a big growth spurt, and even though it’s an amazing thing to experience and it feels great once you’re on the other side of that growth curve, while you’re going through it, it’s not always fun.  Overcoming limiting beliefs and fears and facing parts of yourself can be challenging enough when it happens gradually, but when it happens all at the same time it can seem overwhelming.

Please realize that launching a successful website presence is really just the first step.  There is still a lot of work to be done after that.  Chances are that you will probably not be flooded with so much traffic and customers that you’ll be overwhelmed.  It will take some time for your online presence to grow and establish itself, so don’t worry, you’ll have plenty of time to “throttle” the traffic coming in.

Looking for a Strategy?

Are you looking for an online marketing strategy that speaks to you as a Lightworker?  I’m still very actively doing research on putting together a course to teach Lightworkers how to launch and build a successful online presence.  If you haven’t already participated in it, I would really appreciate your feedback on this matter.  I created a short survey to ask some basic questions that will help me understand what would work best for a course.

Click here to take the survey

One other thing.  If you have any Lightworker friends that you think would benefit from this article or may potentially be interested in this course I’m thinking of putting together, could you do me a favor and email them a link to this page so that I get their feedback as well?

Thanks.

-Paul

I have been following this blog now since early last year and have been amazed at how the blog has evolved! I always seem to read the right post at just the right time. For the last couple of years I have been trying to make it online following all kinds of different shiny things in the affiliate marketing arena. I have made a few sales here and there but it never felt right to me. In the last week I decided that I will only market what fits with my highest purpose. This blog post fits me perfectly now. Thanks!! Doug

Paul, I agree with Doug! It’s like you’re in my head!!! Just when I have a question about my blog, it seems that you post the perfect answer on yours. I’m finding out just how right you are about letting your “true self” out in my online presence. Thanks for always pointing me in the right direction. Angela

Yep was a good article, but I’m not sure where you’re getting your data on lightworkers crying wolf of techie things ;)

Actually I thought I was techie, but now I realise I’m not, but it’s an exciting challenge for me to nut out things within social media.

There sure is an art or should of say having the ability of being patience when building your online presence.

Typical example where I have recently learnt this (and I do know it), I am in the process of designing a wordpress theme to go alongside another venture of mine, I thought in the back of my mind when I launch there will be this flow of people talking to me about my design (even though deep down I knew that wouldn’t be the case), but when I posted it on my blog my design…I got no takers in feedback. For a day I went into a kind of depression, where it really hit me, that things aren’t as simple as telling someone about an idea, and the people will come. It’s ridiculous because I know logically in a day, a week, or months a product may not get much momentum, but I had somehow challenged my brain to think otherwise, that somehow with my magical powers I would be able to defeat the odds – he he!

But really it showed me the mind games, that happen within oneself when one takes on any project, especially one you have promised to commit too. After a day I was ready to give-up, but really it was mind trying to get out of something that would be hard but could be very rewarding down the track.

Seth Godin talks about it in his new book, where he talks about “Lizard brains” and doing the exact opposite to what your brain is saying. Where the things that are too hard to tackle are the things your meant to challenge yourself with.

I think people need to learn for themselves about their “authentic self”, those that are truly lightworkers, or people that want to find “their true self” will get there eventually, but they will make mistakes along the way, including trying to be more money driven, or look into rich quick schemes.

There are some excellent points in this blog post. I think for many people who are not being authentic online on their blogs or websites there are many reasons for this. One is privacy. Maybe there are people in the real world they may not want to see their website or contact them. Another possibility is that maybe their website conflicts with their day job in some way shape or form…..

  6. Hey Paul!
I have to admit, I have been in the lightworker dilemma of thinking that making money is not spiritual enough. Now, my mind has accepted that money, as everything else, is just energy. So is success, abundance, good friends, a life full of all the things I want etc etc… Still though, I find that resistance inside come up that is related to money. Now I recognize it however, and that makes it possible to do something about it. Whenever I find that my online business get sudden growth perieods, I try to fully be in the presence of that experience. It is all about being comfortable with success, and integrating that energy into myself. After all, it is the resistance that is uncomfortable, not the energy of the success itself.

Anyways, just felt like sharing that. Thanks for a great article!

Thanks for the inspiration! I’m following my passion to help dentists open their eyes, manage their practices, reduce their stress, and enjoy life more. That has meant teaching myself to be a Social Media Maven, something TOTALLY new to me and VERY stressful. I started to get down about the current experience, but this post reminded me I’m doing this for FUN and FULFILLMENT, so why get down about it? Thanks, Pauly.

  8. @Doug & @Angela: Glad the post resonated with you. :)
