Looking for a Mentor?

Written by Paul Piotrowski - Wednesday, November 18th, 2009

As part of connecting with my purpose and clarifying my Purpose / Mission, I have begun seeking out coaches and mentors to help me develop my intuitive abilities.

My old way of developing a skill would have been to head to the book store and to look online to surround myself with the information I need to learn the necessary skills in a particular area.

This path of “self-help” personal development is what I’ve used for over 15 years and it’s been very effective for me.  However, even though it’s one way to learn the necessary skills in a particular area in life I have since learned that there are much faster and more effective ways as well.

The Mentor Model

One way of learning a skill that’s way more effective than self-study is the apprentice/mentor model, where you find a mentor to teach you the skills you are looking to learn.

I believe that the apprentice/mentor model of learning is by far the most effective way to develop a skill.  It has been used for thousands of years by everyone from Buddhist Monks to top business executives to auto-mechanics.

One of my first experiences working with a mentor one-on-one was when I started training in martial arts.  The class I was in was a very small class with maybe 3-6 students on any given night so I had a lot of one-on-one time with my Sensei.  The experience of learning directly from another person who has already “mastered” the skill you are trying to learn is truly invaluable.

In fact, I would go as far as to say that for any future personal development I intend to do in any area of my life I’m going to try to work with mentors 90% of time, and resort to self-study only for certain things or when mentors are not available.

Life’s just too short to be wasting your time chasing dead-ends and trying to compile your own system, pieced together from the philosophies of dozens of authors.

Mentoring Opportunity

As part of my path in life I want to help people to connect to their purpose in life and to learn how to make money doing what they love.

I’ve been writing on that subject on this Blog for over two years now and there is a lot of information that I’ve provided for people free of charge.

Those that take the time to read through all of my content, and piece together the techniques and strategies that I’ve taught for themselves shouldn’t have any problems starting to make at least some money online.

However, now that I’ve started working with some coaches and mentors again I am starting to see the huge benefits of working with another human being, instead of just gathering information from books and websites.

So, even though I have already offered coaching / mentoring services as part of my business strategy for a while now, it really wasn’t a huge part of what I wanted to do.

My thinking was that when I work with people one-on-one, I can only help one person at a time, but when I write articles on my Blog I can help many people at the same time.

Although this is true, I now realize that sometimes you can provide a lot more value in the world by helping a few people in a lot of depth than helping a whole bunch of people just on the surface level.

So, as of right now I’m going to be opening up my schedule a bit more to accept more students.

Even though my time is somewhat limited, I do want to start working with students who are serious about taking their lives to the next level.

I think that by taking on a larger quantity of students it will also help me to develop my skills as a mentor which will in turn help me become a better writer and blogger anyways.

Mentoring Pricing

As some of you who have contacted me in the past about coaching/mentoring may know, I normally charge $200/session for my mentoring services.  Each session usually lasts between 1-2 hours and I offer discounted rates if you book 4, 6 or 12 sessions at a time dropping my price down to $125/session (12 session price).

I know the value I bring to the table is much higher than the prices I charge, as I’ve been coached and mentored by people who charge anywhere from $25/session to $600/session so I’m pretty familiar with the going rates for various types of coaching from “life coaching” to “Internet marketing coaching” and everything in between.

However, because I know a lot of the people who need my help the most don’t always have the money to afford coaching at $200/session, especially in the beginning, I’m going to be offering a discount on my rates for a limited period of time.

Instead of charging $200/session, I’m going to drop my pricing down to $65/session for a period of time – BUT I’m only going to work with people who are really serious about making a change in their lives and who want to learn how to make money online.

I don’t know how long I’m going to be able to offer this pricing as it will depend largely on market demand, but once all my time slots fill up I’m going to be raising my rates up again.  So, if you’ve been wanting to get coached / mentored by me but didn’t have the money to afford my regular rates, this is an opportunity for you to get one-on-one coaching/mentoring from me at a very affordable rate.

A Few Side Notes on Mentoring

A few side notes about my mentoring services I’d like to cover.  Firstly, I don’t work with everybody.  There is a pre-qualification process I go through with interested candidates.  If I don’t feel like I can be of much help to you for whatever reason or that there could be some kind of personality conflict (very rare), I will not work with you.  I don’t do this as a way to stroke my ego, I do this to ensure that if you do end up working with me you will get more than your money’s worth for my services.

Anyone who’s interested in learning more about my mentoring/coaching services – send me a quick email through my contact form and let me know what kind of mentoring / coaching you’re looking for and I’ll email you the necessary information to see if mentoring/coaching is the right thing for you.

You can also find more information on my coaching here.

Some ppl need a mentor and the rest is actually self-sufficient and can learn on their own. As for me, I always needed a leader, a person that could show me the way. But when it comes to the stuff connected with the Internet, I actually prefer my own way;)

You are right spot on that there is nothing better way to gain knowledge then learn directly from the master. Does your 12 session cover all necessary skills to start one’s online business?
