The Importance of Desire
A couple of weeks ago I wrote a post about getting out of debt.
In that post I talked about the importance of understanding that debt manifests in our lives as a result of projecting the energy of “Non-Deservingness”.
Today I want to talk about the opposite side of the spectrum – the process of manifesting money into our lives.
To manifest money in our lives we have to start at the level of cause, not effect. Having money in your life is an effect, not a cause.
Nothing in the physical world ever manifests without first manifesting in it’s energy equivalent. Every particle of matter in our universe was first energy.
So in order to have a physical resource like money in your life, you first have to “create” the energy equivalent of money. That is the only way to manifest it (or anything else).
This is what books such as “Think and Grow Rich” and “The Science of Getting Rich” and the movie “The Secret” have been trying to teach us. We must start at the level of energy.
Luckily, we have been blessed with the ability to create thoughts, which are the precursors to everything in the physical universe. It is because we are able to create thoughts that we are able to create anything.
Yet, most of us live our lives like automatons, thinking the same 300,000 thoughts today as we did yesterday. To create something new in our lives, we have to first create new thoughts.
There are “weak thoughts” and there are “strong thoughts”.
Weak Thoughts
Weak thoughts do not have a lot of manifesting power. Even the weakest thought still has an effect on our physical universe, but the effects of most weak thoughts are not perceivable to us.
An example of a weak thought is when you’re walking through the mall, and you see a funny t-shirt and you think to yourself “That would be a funny t-shirt to wear to the office.”
There is a tiny spark of desire energy there, but usually within a few seconds you get distracted and move onto the next “target” for your thoughts. Perhaps you see a pretty girl walk by and the t-shirt is no longer on your mind.
Most of us have hundreds of thousands of these weak thoughts every day, but they mostly amount to nothing.
Strong Thoughts
In order for something to manifest in the physical universe, it must first make its progression from weak thought to strong though and only then it will manifest in the physical world.
In other words, the stronger the energy behind a thought the faster and larger its manifesting powers will be.
Manifesting Money
In order to manifest money, we must first learn how to manifest a strong desire for it. The desire for a specific amount of money, coupled with your faith of attaining that amount of money creates a very strong and powerful energy which will attract money into your life.
You must first desire to manifest a certain amount of money in your life, before it will appear in your life.
Many people make a mistake with this. They don’t want to desire money, until they have it. That doesn’t work.
For example, let’s say that you currently make $4,000/month and your monthly expenses are $4,000/month. Before you can attract more money into your life, you must first manifest the desire to make more money.
Usually this happens when we find something we’d like to purchase like a new car and the monthly payment on that car is $500/month, so all of a sudden we now desire to make $4,500/month.
If we learn to create a strong desire for that extra $500, we will find a way to make that a reality in our lives. This is an example of strong thought.
If, however, we see the car, like it, but then stop thinking about it five minutes later, chances are that we haven’t yet created enough desire energy to actually find a way to make an extra $500/month.
How to Create Desire
There are four very powerful tools you can use to create desire (strong thought) in your life.

(1) Decision and Commitment – The first step in creating desire is to actually decide you desire something and commit to attain it. For example, let’s say that you desire to make an extra $1,000/month. You must first make a decision that this is what you want and a commitment to do what it takes to attain that desire.
It may sound over-simplistic, but not deciding and not committing is a major flaw in most people’s game plans.
Until one is committed there is hesitancy, the chance to draw back, always ineffectiveness. Concerning all acts of initiative (and creation) there is one elementary truth, the ignorance of which kills countless ideas and splendid plans:
The moment one definitely commits oneself, then Providence moves too.
All sorts of things occur to help one that would otherwise never have occurred. A whole stream of events issues from the decision, raising in one’s favor all manners of unforeseen incidents and material assistance, which no man could have dreamed would have come his way.
—William Murray, member of a Scottish expedition to Mount Everest
I believe that decision and commitment is a process. The graph above illustrates the weak energy of an “I want…” statement. We all want many things, but for most of us it’s just a passing thought that has no real power.
We think that we have decided to want something, or that we are committed to attaining it, but really we are not. It’s more a state of “As long as I don’t have to do anything to get it, sure I want that shiny new toy.”
That kind of “decision” to want something is weak and ineffective. Most of us never get any of these types of “wants”.
(2) Affirmations – Really the first step towards energizing our weak thoughts with any kind of power comes from the process of affirmations. Affirmations can be both though-based or speech-based. Meaning, we can think them or say them.
By stating affirmations we affirm in our minds that a given desire is really wanted. When we state an affirmation like “By January 2010 I will have manifested at least $1,000/m more in my life…” we breathe life into our desire to make that much more money per month.
Just by stating affirmations on a daily basis you can begin to really energize your weak thoughts with energy.
(3) Visualization – To really build strong thoughts full of energy we can effectively use the process of visualization to engage our imagination and help us out. Saying you desire to make an extra $1,000/m in an affirmation over and over again is powerful, but closing your eyes and actually visualizing yourself in the possession of having that money is much stronger.
If I told you “There is a beautiful lake where I live“, you would get the idea behind that thought.
However, if I showed you a picture of that beautiful lake, it would have a much more profound impact on you.
Visualization is like that as well, which is why combining the two is very important in energizing your thoughts.
(4) Engaging Your Emotions – If visualizing your desires is like seeing a picture, than adding emotional engagement is like watching a hi-definition movie in full digital surround sound.
To really energize your desire to make an extra $1,000/month for example, you can use affirmations and visualizations, but also engage your emotions while doing it. What this requires is learning how to tap into your emotional center and to get really connected with your desires.
Some people are very good at doing this with food. They can close their eyes and imagine biting into a juicy burger and an drinking an ice-cold pop. Or perhaps cracking open a nice cold beer on a hot summer day. It’s funny how we can engage our emotions with statements like “Mmmmm, a nice cold beer…” or “Mmmmmm, a nice juicy burger…”
The secret to manifesting money in our lives is to learn to “create it” at the level of thought.
Figure out how much money you want first. Then, figure out how soon you’d like to have that money.
Then, use the four tools I mention above to create desire for that money.
Yes there are other steps involved in having that money flow into your life, but if you can get to the point where you actually desire that money with enough strength through the use of these tools, I guarantee that the “How” will present itself very quickly for you.
If you say you want to make more money, but you don’t know how to do it yet, it’s because you don’t want to make the money bad enough yet. Work on your desire first. Learn to amplify your desire for a specific amount of money by using the tools above and the process by which you can manifest that money in your life will present itself to you.
Most of us are too scared to create desire until the “how” presents itself. That never happens. First you have to want it bad enough, and then the means by which you can attain it will show themselves, not the other way around.
If you want money, learn to create a very strong desire for a specific amount of money.
If you want health, learn to create a very strong desire for a specific level of health.
If you want more freedom, learn to create a very strong desire for a very specific definition of what freedom means to you.
etc.
It all starts with your ability to create desire.

Paul,
Well, I think as a regular reader of your blog, I strongly feel that personalizing the concepts from ideas to doable practical actions you have taken before or your own story in which you implemented it would make your blog thousand times more attractive than today…
that is if you want it to be the situation badly enough, right?
All the best, dude!
Great post! This is a reminder how powerful our mind is; it could transform abstract idea into a tangible real life valuable piece. I’ve been familiar with how affirmations change how we deal with our life situations, positively. What we often think and say will penetrate with our subconscious mind, affecting our behaviors, attitudes and decisions. We all need to remind ourselves positively to have a boost towards what we desire in our lives to happen.
oh my God to whom i am listening. who are you. i suspect you are not paul. how do you know that what piece of wisdom i require and just give it to me by your blog. you are really great. i am looking for this and i always find it in your site only.

Excellent points
Great, dude! I will check it out!
Excellent post, I think it was the first post I read without postponing it.. I read from the top to the bottom and I’m sure going to recommend the reading to my followers on twitter. You did a really great job writing it.. I was just thinking about it today, the higher we aim, more chances we have to achieve great things.
I’ve been waiting for this post for 2 weeks now. I checked back every day and here it is. Great job Pete. The one major problem that I find myself running into is my self imposed restrictions. I know that I’m due for something good. Unfortunately, I’ve already told myself that it won’t happen for at least another 2 years and any time I try to break that, my subconscious brings back the 2 year restriction. I know that it’s possible to change my subconscious thoughts, but damn it’s tough.

It’s because of you that I am aware of these laws. I don’t think I’ve ever received as good info as I have from your site. Thank you. (I would’ve never guessed a fellow Pole would be such an influence. Thank you.)
How do you create a dream? Spend a few minutes, right now, writing them down
Answer these questions:
What is your dream?
What are the resources you have available to accomplish/achieve your dream?
What resources do we need to create to support you in achieving your dream?
What are the steps you need to take in order to move closer to your goal?
When will you know you have succeeded? What will it look like, feel like, and sound like?
Hi,
This is a nice post with have a good blog.I am read your blog regular every post.I like this blog with good info.
Excellent post! Your thought process that you laid out here reminds me a lot of “Think and Grow Rich”. It’s all about the mindset, and you explain it here very well. Without the drive and the strong desire, goals wouldn’t be possible to achieve.
So many of us get those ‘sparks’, but it’s not about GETTING those ‘sparks’ – It’s about taking them to the next level and taking action on them
To control desires means to leave what ever comes as hurdle in the way of your sadhana. Anything which distracts your spirituality is a hurdle. You must bye pass it.
It doesn’t mean you must dream.
@Chris: You are right, I was going to include this in the post buy I forgot.
Here’s a post that talks about and illustrates how I used these tools (Decision, Affirmations, Visualization and Emotional Engagement) to manifest a $2,500 laptop for free in 14 days:
