Update on Zoe
Well, it’s been a week since we brought home our new puppy, Zoe. I have definitely had to make some adjustments to my schedule in order to be able to properly house train her. No more working until 3am in the morning. I’ve now been going to sleep a lot earlier so that I can get up in the mornings to take her outside.
As I wrote about in a blog post a few days ago, I have found myself to be more productive during the times when I am working even though I’ve had less time to work. I believe that everything we attract into our lives (yes everything), is there to teach us something. It would be so easy for me to be resentful for this week’s lack of sleep, lack of time to myself, lack of time to work on my business etc., but that would be denying the full awareness of life.
As Eckhart Tolle would say, that would be denying the present moment and living in the past.
Is your present situation preventing you from building your online empire? The truth is that life never denies us what we truly want, but it may not deliver it in the limited way you asked for it. If you stay in the present moment, you will discover that no matter what hardships you may be perceiving, there is always a flipside to everything.
For example, my perception of the present moment could be that with all the time I’m spending with Zoe, I now have way less time to work on my online business. But that would be to see the situation from only one side. The other side of the coin is that I now have an opportunity to learn to prioritize, schedule and focus myself better during my work hours, cutting out unproductive tasks and to learn to make money online working fewer and fewer hours per day. Isn’t that what I want long term anyways?
The decision to get a new puppy wasn’t something my wife and I made impulsively. We’ve been thinking about it for probably about a year now. My main concern all along was that getting a puppy would take away time from me to be able to work on my business at this critical time when I just left my job 6 months ago and I’m trying to build a stable income online, but now I see my worries have been unwarranted. There’s time for everything.
Has anyone else found this to be true in their lives too?
Here are some pics my wife snapped up last night of Zoe, Kobe and I right before we gave Zoe her first bath. This is her posing for the camera.
Here she was looking at Kobe chewing on his toy, formulating a plan on how to get the toy away from him.
Here’s Kobe and I. One thing I’ve been trying to do all of this week as well is to spend some time with him and pet him so that he doesn’t feel like Zoe is getting all the attention. Anytime I go to pet him now he totally soaks it up. He’s so big, but he can be such a baby.
Here’s Kobe playing with his toy, taunting Zoe. Secretly he wants her toy so he’s trying to show off his toy to grab Zoe’s attention. Then, when she goes to grab his toy he steals her toy. I’m not kidding, he’s been doing that kind of stuff all week. Of course once she’s playing with the other toy, he gets bored of his and wants that one back. He’s like a 5 year old kid, always wanting the toy that the other kid is playing with.
After I let Kobe out, Zoe grabbed both toys. She’s chewing on one and just keeping an eye on the other.
She likes to pose for the camera. Unaware that she’s about to go for her first bath, she’s relaxing on her favorite mat, with her favorite toy.
This is her after her first bath. She can’t wait to get out of the water. Here’s a couple of tips for anyone who’s never given their dog a bath before. Make sure you use a dog shampoo, as it’s like a baby shampoo that won’t sting their eyes. Don’t get water in their ears, just gently wash their head but don’t pour water on their heads. Keep the water luke-warm, not hot. Expect that they will whine. Expect to get wet yourself, and expect them to go nuts after the bath and run around the house trying to dry themselves off on the carpets, rugs or blankets. Towel dry them as much as you can, and try to make it a positive experience.
Oh yeah…one more thing… start young. We didn’t do that with Kobe and now it’s impossible for us to even THINK about giving him a bath. He’s way too strong and too big for us to get him into a tub. Thank God we found a groomer that’s able to handle him and give him a bath.
I can tell you exactly what Zoe is thinking in the picture below: “Dad, get me the hell out of this water, now!”

Zoe is so cute! I have a little dog too (she is an old lady) and we have been bathing her since she was just a pup. I think all dogs do the crazy run around the house thing. My dog never use to like baths but over the years she has come to enjoy them, and she seems to love being clean! Thanks for the update.
Paul are you going to train her yourself? Labradors are full of energy so I think it won’t be easy. Good luck!
Great post and one that I totally agree with.
I work from home and my daughter has recently changed school… the impact on me is that the school is an extra 15 minutes further away than her previous school and finishes 15 minutes earlier meaning I lose an hour and 15 minutes out of my working day five days a week.
What I’ve actually found is the tighter time constraints means that I am more focused, work with less interruption, prioritize, delegate and am now even more productive.
My daughter has come on leaps and bounds in her new school (the reason for the move) and this has had a positive impact on her self-esteem and peer-to-peer relationships.
Congrats with Zoe,
Karl
Her name is Sasha, and no photos of her on my blog, sorry.
@Lisa: Cool…what’s her name and do you have pics on your Blog of her?
