10 Internet Marketers That Influenced Me The Most

Written by Paul Piotrowski - Monday, May 25th, 2009

When it comes to making money online there is no shortage of people online who dispense advice.  My RSS reader pulls dozens of articles on a daily basis from my favorite “Make Money Online” bloggers and marketers.  Here’s a quick highlight of ten Internet marketers that have influenced me the most over the last few years.

(1) Darren RowseThe original Pro Blogger, Darren’s Blog has an almost overwhelming amount of advice on Blogging.  Darren’s humble attitude shines through in all his Blog posts and I’ve definitely learned a lot from him.  Now that I’m trying to learn all about Twitter, his new Blog TwiTip is also an invaluable resource.

(2) Steve PavlinaSteve’s focus is on Personal Development and not Internet marketing but his success online as a Blogger has definitely had a huge influence on me.  I’ve been reading Steve’s Blog for over three years now and his blog is a perfect case study of what happens when you commit yourself to providing tons of unique and valuable content to your readers.

(3) John Chow John Chow’s Blog is as addicting as crack.  There’s always something new to read, and even though there are many other blogs that have much more “educational” content on making money online, I just can’t seem to stop checking in on what’s new on John Chow’s blog.  I’ve been to one of John’s Dot Com Pho lunch meet-ups, and I met the regulars and now I’m addicted to watching every week’s episode.

To learn how to make money online from John Chow, just watch what he does.  Even though he doesn’t necessarily always spell out how to make money online in all his articles, you can learn a lot by paying careful attention to his site.  His blog is a perfect case study of what works in today’s marketplace.

(4) Tyler Cruz Tyler is a young, genius Internet marketer that I’m always learning from.  The reason I can’t stop reading his Blog is because he’s always doing stuff that I would never think to even try.  Being involved in traditional business for over 15 years has come in handy in helping me to make money online, but it also has some drawbacks.

One drawback is that my brain will sometimes unconsciously filter out ideas that my “business experience” tells me probably won’t work.  Tyler doesn’t see the world through the same filters so he’ll sometimes try things that I wouldn’t.

For example, if I needed a new pair of running shoes, I wouldn’t think to try getting an affiliate network to pay for them.  Tyler tried that and not only did he get a new pair of running shoes out of it, he also probably got some word-of-mouth traffic out of it from people that shared the story with others.  When he does stuff like that, it really reminds me that making money online can be a lot different from traditional business.

(5) Yaro StarakYaro is another guy that helped me out a lot when I was first getting started in blogging.  I took his Blog Mastermind course and learned a lot about running a successful blog online.  I had the privilege of meeting Yaro when he came to Vancouver last year and it was fun picking his brain on blogging and making money online.

Yaro is one of the sharpest guys out there when it comes to applying all the different ways of making money online, combining things like blogging, affiliate marketing and membership sites to build his online empire.

(6) Nitro MarketingKevin Wilke and Matt Gill, the two masterminds behind Nitro Marketing played a big role in teaching me the strategies involved in making money online by creating and marketing digital products.  Their Nitro Blueprint system is a great product and it’s completely loaded with useful information on building an online business.

(7) Dr. Joe VitaleDr. Vitale is one of my favorite authors and what I really love about him is that he has totally embraced the Internet and understands the leverage that it provides for a personal development author like himself.  A lot of personal development authors out there do an amazing job in the offline world, but haven’t really embraced the Internet as a way to connect with their audience.  Dr. Joe Vitale “gets” the importance of the Internet and it shows in his work.

His hypnotic marketing strategies and resources are top notch and they’ve definitely had an influence on me.  I was also a student of his Executive Mentoring program and enjoyed that thoroughly.

(8) Richard BonnerRichard Bonner is a student of affiliate marketing like myself and we’re always talking and sharing ideas and strategies for affiliate marketing.  Since I’m a night owl and I love to work until the wee hours of the morning, we always end up chatting it up since he’s on UK time so it’s day time for him when it’s night time here.

Richard’s fun to talk to because we started learning affiliate marketing around the same time (he started a few months before me), so it’s kind of fun for us to engage in some healthy competition since we’re very similar in terms of skill level and experience when it comes to affiliate marketing.

(9) Randy’s Blog – I first learned about Randy Gage from my coach Bryant Jones, who recommended one of his books to me.  I read the book and loved it.  Randy also has a blog that I discovered just a few months back and I love reading his posts.  They aren’t specifically related to Internet marketing but they do focus on having the right mindset to be financially wealthy.

(10) Bryant Jones – I met Bryant through the Executive Mentoring program I took part in from Dr. Joe Vitale.  Bryant was my assigned mentor/coach in the program and we became friends.  Bryant was very helpful in the early stages of creating this Blog.  In fact when I first started working with Bryant, I was all over the place with dozens of ideas of things I could do online but nothing started.  His coaching helped me to focus my efforts on launching Inspired Money Maker.

Bryant has recently returned from 6 months of travel and launched a program called Exit My Job, aimed at helping people to get out of their jobs and to live what he calls the Mobile Entrepreneur Lifestyle.

Well, there you have it.  I’m sure most of you will have heard of at least a few of these Internet marketing geniuses, but I figured I’d share who I always learn from in case some of you haven’t heard of all of them.

    Hi Paul,

The Joe Vitale link goes to something called drfire.com with a list of doctors and fire training and stuff. Weird.

I think almost every blogger of that list is inspirational for bloggers trying to make money online.

Richard Bonner is becoming a real true success story. He did 60-70K gross last month from his affiliate marketing efforts.

  4. Hey Paul, thanks for the shout out :)

We need to pick each others brains to get a competition up and running because I’m falling behinf and slacking lol

  5. @Richard: Yeah for sure. You won the last one. I need to brainstorm something that isn’t going to be as easy for you to cheat at as last time. :)

    j/k

Actually, I have an affiliate marketing contest planned for once my weight loss one is done… maybe we can 3-way or something, or have Paul and me vs Richard since he’s balling now lol.

  7. @Tyler: 3-Way? Dude that sounds so bad, hehehe. What kind of contest were you thinking of? I want to do something more different. I’m so bored of “Who can earn more.” type of stuff. I actually like your weight loss one since it has nothing to do with online marketing, but didn’t participate in it for the reasons I mentioned in my emails.

It would be neat to do some kind of competition though.

I actually remembered that I’m going on a trip for a couple weeks to the Philippines on July 2nd so I probably wouldn’t want the competition until after I came back…

I did have a couple of spin ideas on just a basic who can generate more… actually, I’ve had the idea for close to two years now and actually was about to do it last year but then found out something about somebody that dislodged the idea.

Sorry, I’m rambling. I don’t want to divulge the idea though until I’m about to set it up so I don’t get a bunch of copy caters ;)

But to spice up just your basic “who can earn more” competition – why not just change things around a bit? For example, in your challenge vs Richard, did either of you have to face a penalty if you didn’t make the challenge? For my competition with Gyutae it was just a humiliation video, but in the end that didn’t end up being enough “reverse incentive” for either of us to really work as hard as we should have.

So why not raise the stakes? Make the loser FLY over to the other person’s place and make them a 3 course dinner or take them out to a 5-star restaurant or something. Expenses are on the loser of course. I was goign to do that but have the loser do the humiliation thing in front of the winner, but I ended up not doing it because I thought it’d be too expensive of a blow for the loser, especially since he already lost the competition.

I don’t know. The weight loss competition is fun and effective, but once that’s done I want to go back to making some nice money online through a competitive format. I actually wish I could compete in my own PublisherChallenge :-)

I like to rambleeeeeeeeeeee (actually Paul is still the king of writing 50-page long e-mails)

  9. Tyler CruzNo Gravatar says:

You could still compete against him in terms of GROWTH. % of monthly net profit growth from current affiliate marketing efforts. You’d actually have an edge on him that way :-)

So you think you can dance? Internet Marketer Edition.

  11. I’m up for some healthy competition as long as it doesn’t involve that three way ;) I’ve been having a think about something that would be good and unique aside who can earn more during the month.

I think it would be good to have something related to getting out there and working so that it will pay off in the long run and get me off my arse to work a full day.

I’ve got an idea, I’ll give you 2 something to do off my todo list and you complete it for me :P First one to do it properly wins a signed postcode by me :D … Genius idea

  12. @Evan: Fixed. It was supposed to be MrFire.com, not DrFire.com. My mind said “MrFire.com” but my fingers typed “DrFire.com” I guess, heheeh.

    Thanks for pointing that out.

  13. @Tyler: Whatchya talking about? I don’t write long emails! :)

Yeah, friendly competition is good. I wouldn’t want to compete with Bonner as far as Affiliate Stuff is concerned as right now he’s kicking my butt. We’d have to compete in something that we both have a fair chance of winning.

  14. @Tyler: That’s true. I’ll think about it, but I kind of wanted to do something more clever than just who earns more money…

For example, we each launch 10 websites in 10 days and the person who gets each of the websites to make $10 in profit/each wins. So even if one site makes $500, it doesn’t matter if the other sites don’t make $10.

But even that is about earning money. I kind of wanted something else. Hmmmmmmmmmmm….

  15. @Tyler: ROFL. Oh man… one word… NO! I draw the line at posting half-naked pictures of myself on my Fitness Blog. No dancing for me. :)
