@Bruce: Yes, your feedback helps. I have gotten a whole crapload of more Twitter followers as a result of making those changes and writing the post. So I guess the strategy works.

Now others can apply the same strategy if they want to build followers.

…one last note: what I think is really wise is that you made a blog post about being on Twitter and Facebook, and you made it more interesting than just saying “I’m on Twitter and Facebook.” The title actual made me want to check out the blog post since I thought it might have some ideas worth reading.

From a marketing perspective, that combo of (A) mentioning that you’re on Twitter and Facebook, and (B) making the post where you mention it actually interesting means you’ll get a decent chance to expose your content and ideas to at least one more person (i.e. me ).

Hi Paul,

I followed you on Twitter and befriended you on Facebook as a result of your new buttons. I already use Twitter and Facebook so I didn’t need the buttons to say “click here” or anything (but other people might; I guess you’ll have to see what results you get from your audience).

It’s interesting: I’m sure I could have found you on Facebook or Twitter, but until I was promoted with an “easy”, “yes, Paul’s on Twitter and Facebook,” I didn’t feel compelled to make that connection.

I think it is a good size, big enough to be noticed and small enough not to take too much away from the site.

The one on my site is match more blended, I actually show some recent tweets rather than focusing on a button. I guess I’m more interested in people following me because they see interesting content in my tweets. I can’t stand twitter spam.

Different goals puts you in different holes.
