P90X – Day 18 – Yoga X

Written by Paul Piotrowski - Thursday, February 26th, 2009

Well, it was P90X Yoga X day again so I started off my morning with the Beach Body Protein Shake.  I finally found a perfect way to make the shake taste really good and easy to drink without making too much to consume in one sitting.

(Combine: 1 1/2 scoops of Beach Body Chocolate Whey Protein Powder, 1/2 cup water, 1/2 cup skim milk, 1/2 cup ice cubes, 1/2 banana.  Blend.  Drink.)

After my shake I waited about an hour and a half before starting my workout.  I learned a little trick while doing the Yoga X today.  While doing some of the movements I began to notice that if you pay attention, you can consciously make a point to release and relax some of the muscles in your body that you are not using during that exercise.

For example, during a posture where I was lifting my leg up, I became aware of the fact that I was tensing my shoulder muscles and I didn’t need to as they had nothing to do with holding my leg up, so I consciously made a point of forcing them to relax.  I know it sounds simplistic, but I did this throughout all the movements, allowing my body to relax any muscles that were not needed to be used during a movement and it made it way easier to do the Yoga.

I think part of the problem why Yoga X is so hard for beginners is that we tense way too many muscles throughout the workout that we shouldn’t and that causes those muscles to be exhausted by the time we do need them.  Anyway, it’s something I discovered today and it really helped me have a better, more relaxed Yoga X session.

Lunch

Of course after Yoga X I was really hungry as usual, so I made this garden salad with grilled chicken breast and I devoured it.  I know in the picture it looks like there is a lot of chicken there, but I weighed it and it was only 7 1/2 oz, surprisingly.

Dinner

For dinner I ended up quickly just whipping up this Tenderloin Steak with some Brown Rice and some cut up Veggies.  It was simple, easy and it tasted great.  Only took me about 20 minutes to prepare as well.

@Peek: I take pictures every week, but I might not reveal them until day 90. Either that or I might post new pics on Day 30, 60, and 90.
