P90X – Day 17 – Shoulders and Arms

Written by Paul Piotrowski - Wednesday, February 25th, 2009

I felt so tired today.  I think partially it’s due to not getting enough sleep, but I also think it might be due to the low amount of calories I ate yesterday.  I only ate 1991 calories yesterday and my Plyometrics workout alone burned about 800 of those calories.  I really need to start eating more.

I think the biggest thing is that I wake up so late and so my breakfast is always late, and then I like to work out a few hours after that and then by the time I’m done all that it’s already around 4-5pm so it’s almost time for dinner so I always end up missing my lunch meal.

Meaning, I end up eating lunch for dinner but then I should also eat another meal 3 hours after that, but I don’t end up making another meal.  I just end up eating a protein bar or something smaller that doesn’t require so much preparation.

I have to figure out some way around this.  It probably means I need to wake up earlier and eat my breakfast earlier.

The workout went fine today, but I did feel really tired throughout it.  On the Ab Ripper X section of the workout today, I was able to do 50 Mason Twists for the first time ever.  When I started this program I was only able to do 15 of those and just recently got the number up to 30, then 40 and today I did 50.  Very excited about that.  I still suck at some of the other ab exercises, but at least I can do that to 50 now. :)

Breakfast

For breakfast today I had an egg scramble with green onions and three turkey bacon strips along with a glass of orange juice.  I was so hungry I devoured the plate really quickly.

Lunch

For lunch (if you can call it that at 5pm) today my wife made me an 8oz tenderloin steak on top of a spring mix salad with cucumbers, tomatoes, yellow and red peppers and green onion.  It was delicious!

Dinner

Since I had lunch late, I just ended up warming up some Organic Creamy Tomato Soup for dinner.  Later on in the evening I had a protein bar and a banana.

Good job on your progress! I’ve been following along with your progress and food photos. Out of curiosity, what do you think of the turkey bacon? I saw some at the store the other day but was hesitant to purchase it…

@Melissa: It’s pretty good. I’ve been eating regular bacon all my life and just started using Turkey Bacon when I started doing P90X because that is what they call for in their nutritional guide. To me it tastes just as good as regular bacon. When you cook it, not as much fatty grease comes pouring out and it gets crispier faster. The regular bacon they had at the store that I was comparing the Turkey Bacon to had almost double the calories and way more fat, so the Turkey Bacon was an easy choice.

Best thing to do is just buy one package and try it out to see if you like it. If you do, you can save yourself a lot of calories, especially calories from fat by switching to it and it tastes very similar to regular bacon. I would go as far as saying that it actually tastes better than most regular bacon I’ve tried.
