P90X – Day 7 – X Stretch
Today is day seven of me starting the P90X program which marks the end of Week 1. Before I go through my daily summary, let me first do a recap of my impressions of this program now that I have successfully completed the first week.
Week 1 Recap
Starting off the week was the hardest part because I had to try to implement a new sleeping schedule for myself to get enough rest to do these workouts, as well as changing my eating schedule and eating habits, on top of actually doing the workouts themselves.
I only found out about P90X the Friday prior to starting the program last Monday so I didn’t have a lot of time to prepare myself, such as for example going out and getting all the groceries I needed to get started on the program. I had about 80% of what I needed, and had to get creative on the other 20%. For example, the P90X supplements I ordered didn’t come in until Wednesday, so I had to rely on some alternatives I picked up from GNC last Sunday to hold me over until the P90X ones came in.
All in all though, the week started out good and I managed to survive the workout sessions. The first two days were the toughest by far as far as the workouts go. If you can survive the first two days, I think you’re good for the rest of the week.
I was very impressed with the nutrition plan and all week I felt like I have been doing nothing but eating. Meaning, this is not a nutrition plan where you’re on some kind of diet where you’re always feeling hungry. On this system I’m eating often and the meals are very filling, which I like. In fact, the only problem I’ve been having is being able to eat ENOUGH! That’s kind of a weird place to be in for someone who has been overeating for quite some time now, and eating all kinds of crappy foods.
Now that the week is over, I don’t know if it’s just my imagination or not, but I actually FEEL stronger. Although I haven’t noticed (or expected) any difference in body appearance yet, it’s really weird because it’s almost like I started to feel the muscles underneath the fat beginning to form.
I don’t really know how to describe what it FEELS like to be stronger, but that’s just how I feel. It’s like I have awakened and connected to all the different muscle groups in my body this week. Every single muscle has been activated and put on alert. It’s a very neat feeling.
So, now that Week 1 is over I’m basically very impressed with this program as a whole. I think the workouts are great, I think the nutrition guide is great, and I love the supplements as well, so I’m really happy with this program overall.
The Workout – X Stretch
Today was my rest day from the workout. On rest day you have a choice to either just rest and do nothing, or if you like you can do the 60minute X Stretch DVD which basically just helps you to become more flexible. It’s not a workout DVD, it’s basically just a stretching/flexibility DVD.
Today, my wife and I decided to go to the Vancouver Aquarium with my brother, and his two kids so we spent the day walking around the Aquarium and around Stanley Park so I got a pretty good Cardio workout in today anyways, but when I got home I still wanted to get my X Stretch workout in so that I maintain my habit of doing a P90X DVD every day. I’m very glad I did that because the DVD helped me stretch and improve my flexibility.
Meals for Today
For breakfast I had this Egg and Cheese English Muffin with Orange Juice. I had lunch at the Vancouver Aquarium and I ate a Pacific Salmon Filet Sandwich for lunch. For dinner I had a Teriyaki Chicken Rice Bowl from the Sammy J. Peppers restaurant.
Today was my “rest day” for workouts and meals, but I honestly haven’t decided yet how I want to treat my Sunday “rest day”. I’m thinking that I may allow myself to eat outside of the P90X strict menu on Sunday’s, and maybe try to get in a nice brisk walk or a light cardio workout on top of the stretches.
I’m going to do a bit more research on this and ask some of the other people who started the P90X program last Monday to see what they’re doing for their “rest” days as far as meals are concerned. I didn’t eat anything horrible today, but I also wasn’t as strict today as I was Mon – Sat.
