P90X – Day 6 – Kenpo X
This morning I decided to do my workout before breakfast to see how I like it that way. I wanted to get some sugars in my blood so I had some grape juice with my Beach Body P90X Strength & Muscle Men’s Formula drink mix and then did my workout about 30 minutes after that.
The Workout – Kenpo X
Kenpo X is a cardio workout that’s fun because it’s based on moves from the martial art called Kenpo. No, you’re not going to learn Kenpo or how to defend yourself by doing this workout, but let’s face it – if you’re going to be moving around to try to get your heart rate up, it’s still more fun to be punching and kicking your way to cardio health than doing something else.
I quite enjoyed this workout as it was fun, and the 60 minutes seemed to just fly by. It almost felt like it went by too fast. It felt great to get the workout done first thing in the morning.
Late Morning Snack – English Muffin with Garden Veg. Patties and Cheese
After my workout I decided to make my recovery drink and an English Muffin with Yves Garden Vegetable Patties and Mozzarella Cheese. My P90X nutrition guide calls for 3 patties, but I just couldn’t imagine eating that many patties so instead I just tried making it with two and I put a bit of mozzarella cheese in between the layers and melted it in the microwave for a few seconds. The veggie patties I grilled on my electric grill.
The muffin actually tasted really good, but I had a hard time finishing it along with the recovery drink.
Late Lunch – Salad
As a late lunch I made this salad you see above. It had spring mix greens in it, along with cucumber slices, some low fat ham cubes, some mozzarella cheese cubes, some dried cranberries, sprinkled with sesame seeds and a bit of low-fat vinaigrette dressing. The salad tasted pretty good, but I mostly ended up eating all the cucumbers and didn’t finish the rest of what was left. I would say I probably ate about 90% of it but then I was too full to eat anymore so I stopped.
Dinner – Chinese Food
For dinner today, I had dinner to go to at a Chinese food restaurant. I tried my best to order something that was at least somewhat healthy. I ordered Egg Foo Yung, which is basically made out of eggs, bean sprouts and chicken, so that’s mostly protein there. Then I also ordered some mixed vegetables which was basically broccoli, cauliflower, carrots and onions, so that wasn’t too bad. Then I also ordered some prawns, and even though those were deep fried in batter I just peeled off all the batter and ate the prawns inside.
Of course eating out is never ideal, but I think I did alright considering. I tried ordering an orange juice instead of the usual Coke that I order when I go there, but all they had was Orange Pop which is basically just as bad as a Coke. So I just had that, but I only drank half of it which was about 65 calories. Oh, and I had one fortune cookie, as well… those are 30 calories.
Late Snack – Egg and Cheese English Muffin
For a late snack my wife made me an egg and cheese English muffin. It tasted really good. I forgot to take a picture, but I’m sure you can imagine what that looks like.
Mind Tricks
It’s funny how our mind plays tricks on us. I was about to come downstairs tonight and enter in all the food I ate, but then my mind tried to convince me that I should just not enter in my calories for today. I should just skip that part and just put in an entry for 2,000 calories and say “unknown day total” or something and start again tomorrow.
Meaning, most of the food I ate today it’s hard to identify how many calories are in that kind of food. I mean the Chinese restaurant I went to doesn’t have calorie counts for their foods, and I don’t know exactly what they put into their Egg Foo Yung.
For a few seconds I considered just skipping my counting for today, but then I stopped that thought dead in it’s tracks, loaded up my software and began counting everything. It’s very important for my brain to understand that EVERYTHING that I eat every day will be recorded. No exceptions. I can’t give it an excuse even for one day, otherwise it will win and I’ll fall off my plan. It doesn’t matter if I’m a little bit off here and there because I miscount the number of calories in Egg Foo Yung. It just matters that I try my best to be accurate and that’s good enough.
So after a lot of data entry for today, here are my nutritional stats for the day:
Calories: 2124
Fat: 60.68g
Carbs: 266.73g
Protein: 139.35g
