Oatmeal with Strawberries

Yesterday night I had a craving for some kind of dessert around 9pm, but instead of having a bowl of ice cream or some chocolate or something like that, I decided to try something else out.

I grabbed a bowl of Nature’s Path – Organic Instant Oatmeal (Apple Cinnamon) with some freshly sliced Strawberries instead.  It was delicious and literally took less than 3 minutes to prepare.  All you do is pour a pouch of the instant oatmeal into a bowl and add 1/2cup boiling water, and slice in some strawberries and stir.

What does this look like in terms of nutritional value?

  • Calories: 217
  • Fat: 2g
  • Carbs: 44g
  • Fiber: 5.5g
  • Protein: 6.5g

Considering that a bowl of ice cream is like 500-800 calories, and there is very little nutritional value in it compared to the fiber and protein you get in the oatmeal and the strawberries, I think I’m going to be eating this type of thing a lot more often.

Another alternative I might try is mixing it in with blueberries or raspberries when I have some in the house.

Mmmmmmmm… that picture is making me hungry.
