The Birth of a New Blog – Fitness, Health and Healing

Written by Paul Piotrowski - Tuesday, February 3rd, 2009

Welcome to the birth of my new Blog – FitnessHealthandHealing.com.

The launch of this Blog coincides with my decision to set a new standard in my life in the areas of Fitness, Health and Healing.  Growing up I was always very active, and particularly enjoyed playing sports such as basketball, tennis and soccer.  However, once I graduated from highschool and entered the corporate workforce, my active lifestyle was replaced with a job sitting at a computer desk all day.  That’s when my “fit and healthy” days came to an end and I began to put on weight.

At first things weren’t that bad because I was young and had a super fast metabolism from all those years of sports and being active, so I could continue to eat crappy foods and not put on any weight.  Around the age of 25 though, I began to notice my body go through some changes though.  All of a sudden I began to put on weight, my cardiovascular fitness was virtually non-existant and I began looking for ways to improve my health.

I began by reading a few books on diets and tried a few of them out without a lot of success.  I then got a bit more serious and really began researching the topic in more detail.  Once I started to really dive into health and fitness I realized that there is an overwhelming amount of information out there related to this area of life and a lot of contradictory advice.  I learned that even doctors know very little about nutrition because it’s not part of their training they have to go through in school.  To really learn about health I knew I had to approach it from the point of view of prevention, not from the point of view of symptomology (study of the symptoms of disease) like most doctors do.

I began learning about all kinds of alternative health systems, nutritional systems, diets, weight training programs and in 2007/2008 I began part time studies in advanced nutrition at the Alive Academy of Natural Health and earned certificates in Applied Nutrition, Vegetarian Nutrition and Sports Nutrition also earning the designation of Certified Sports Nutrition Consultant (CSNC).  During my studies, I learned more than anyone would ever want to know about macronutrients, micronutrients, vitamins, minerals, human anatomy, the effects of foods, drugs and supplements on the human body, weight loss and maintenance strategies through proper nutrition and exercise and everything else I could possibly ever want to know about proper nutrition, diet and exercise.

However, even after all those studies and bookshelves full of books on the subject, the challenge is that I haven’t really ever made my own health and fitness a very high priority ever since I was a teenager.  It really doesn’t matter how much you know about nutrition and fitness, it only matters what you do with that knowledge.  I have begun “working out” probably about a dozen times in the last ten years and I’ve never been able to stick with it.  Other things in my life have always just seemed to take priority especially due to the fact that I’m still mostly very healthy, so it’s easy to just take my health for granted while I work on the other projects in my life.

In early 2008 I began an exercise program setting a goal for myself to exercise and eat healthy for 90 days straight without missing a day.  The purpose behind this 90 day process was to help me develop the self-discipline of sticking to a diet and exercise program.  I was very happy to complete the program without missing a single day, but I made a fatal mistake after the 90 days were done.  Even though I lost around 16lbs during the 90 day period of time, immediately after completing the 90 days I began working on another 90 day goal in a totally different area of my life and stopped paying attention to my weight or nutrition since I had no new goal or maintenance plan in place.  My weight slid back in the 190′s and eventually creeped over 200lbs.

I knew I had to do something, but I felt that there was something missing in my plan.  It wasn’t lack of knowledge as I already had all the knowledge I could ever want in the area of nutrition.  It wasn’t even self-discipline because I proved to myself that I can stick to a goal if I want to.   What was missing was a decision for me to once and for all make the health and fitness category of my life a priority.  As many of my readers from my InspiredMoneyMaker.com Blog may know, I am a very success and personal development oriented individual and I have focused a big part of the last 10-15 years of my life mastering personal development, business and money making strategies.  During that time however, I have always allowed my business life to take precedence over my health and fitness, and it is only now in 2009 that I have made a decision to put my health on the priority list.

As I’ve already mentioned, I don’t have any health problems at the moment, so I am not going on this journey because of some ailment or disease that I have to beat, but in a way allowing my body to reach the point where I weigh over 210lbs is just as serious as any disease out there.  I’m very excited to be going on this journey to bring my body back into its natural balance and my intention is to share this journey in hopes that perhaps it might help someone else out there who’s in a similar place in their life.

I hope you guys enjoy this Blog!
