@Ace Andres: David Hawkins, the author of “Power vs Force” and who came up with the scales of consciousness did a calibration on Global Warming as a result of what humans are doing to the planet and the answer came up “False”, meaning according to his calibration methods Global Warming has nothing to do with SUV’s and carbon emissions.

I also seem to remember someone telling me that Al Gore’s carbon footprint was rather large on his mansion, while George Bush’s carbon footprint was almost nothing because he runs solar power stuff or something. Weird eh?

Hubris is more common in Science than in Hollywood. In Science, if it can’t be proven, it doesn’t exist. Of course the option to that is to ackowledge your “IGNORANCE”.

Tip. That’s a GOOD THING. The smartest people in the world are those who know what their weaknesses are and are aware of what they don’t know. Einstein had to contradict his hero Newton when he set out to prove the general theory of relativity. He didn’t know HOW to prove it but he was convinced that “Something” was out there that contradicted Newton’s law of Gravity. One can’t imagine the ridicule Einstein endured trying to prove his theory.

What’s ironic is that today, There’s a buzz word called “Global Warming” that is the Holy Grail” of Educational/Scientific Grant Money. And there is NO Scientific evidence that man’s carbon footprint is causing this doomsday scenario. If so, what caused the previous 2 Ice ages? Yet Science is willing to ignore carbons spewed into the air by active Volcanos. Science is quick to “poo-poo” the rash of solar flares that have taken place on the surface of our sun.

Nah, there’s more money in blaming SUVs and corperate America.

Hubris I tell you. The curse that keeps minds locked.

The most valuable thing we can learn from this is to look how WE are having Semmelweis Reactions ourselves, even if we’re normally open minded people. Just becoming aware of that can have a big impact on our lives. Most people who have a Semmelweis Reaction aren’t aware that they’re doing that.

Excellent post – stumbled! Sometimes I see people adamantly rejecting a claim before they even know what the claim actually is. Not every idea is necessarily true of course, but we don’t need to be so afraid to consider the possibilities.

So true. I think it is very UNscientific to just dismiss new ideas — and many do this in the name of science. When I guest posted on Pick The Brain recently about intuition, some commenters wanted to persuade me that intuition is nothing more than brain’s reasoning in the subconscious. While I appreciate all feedback (now I have another post idea!) I do feel sorry for those people.

Rather than be an obedient servant or slave to existing beliefs that sit well with the status quo, perhaps it would be better merely to undergo a change in attitude in the face of incredible, mind-bending ideas or stories from one of “This doesn’t make sense; forget it” to one of “This doesn’t make sense, but I’m willing to keep an open mind about it – at least for now”.
