Server Downtime

Written by Paul Piotrowski - Thursday, October 16th, 2008

For those of you who visited my Blog today between noon and around 7pm, you probably saw a nasty error message saying the Blog is down.  I appologize for that.  Apparently, I just got hit by another Stumble Upon Traffic spike today, and this time it caused some kind of major server load issue on my server.

It appears that either some form of malfunction in the tracking module of my OIOPublisher plugin or my Woopra plugin, amplified by the massive influx of traffic from Stumble Upon, created some sort of server load issue and my hosting provider had to temporarily disable my site.

I am still going through my log files to make sure that it wasn’t some sort of Denial of Service attack, but it did happen during a time of a Stumble Upon traffic rush so I think it wasn’t a melicious attack.  I’ll keep a close eye on the site just in case.

If it turns out that my server traffic is getting too high for a hosted solution, I might need to get a dedicated server for this Blog.
