Blog World Expo Day 1 Update

Written by Paul Piotrowski - Saturday, September 20th, 2008

Today was the first day of the Blog World Expo here in Las Vegas.  This is going to be a short post with just a few brief updates on the event, as I’m currently getting ready to go out and do some more sight seeing around Las Vegas.  Once I get back, I’ll have a lot more time to go into more detail on the event.

Just briefly though, I finally had a chance to meet Tyler Cruz in person.  Tyler and I have been friends online for a while now and we both live in British Columbia in Canada, but until today we never met in person.  Tyler and his girlfriend Lisa seem like super nice people and if you read Tylers Blog at all, he’s pretty much exactly like that in person.

Although I missed it because I was walking around and speaking with the exhibitors, it looks like Tyler won quite a bit of cash at a Market Leverage Cashinator showdown between him, John Chow, Shoemoney and Zac Johnson.  I’m sure he’ll Blog about it on his Blog and might even have a video on there.  By the time I got there, I just saw him standing there with a big wad of cash in his hands, hehe.

While wandering the exhibit showroom I saw Darren Rowse from ProBlogger.net wondering around so I introduced myself, exchanged business cards with him and had a very quick chat.  Darren’s Blog is one of the Blogs that really inspired me and really got me into Blogging, and obviously he’s been super successful with Blogging so it was really cool to actually meet the guy in person.  Seemed like a super nice guy in person as well.

I’ll Blog about the different exhibitors I saw there when I get back, but some of the highlights were finally meeting all the great people at Market Leverage, the guys at Unique Blog Designs, Jacqueline at Lijit, Frank and Rick at Copeac as well as the guys at IdeaBlog.com and Woopra.com.

Probably the most interesting booth there which had a cool piece of software which I totally want to install right away was Woopra.com.  They created a really sleek looking Web Analytics software which, from what I’ve seen, puts Google’s Analytics to shame.  It’s really sleek, it’s currently free, and the only catch is that they are still in closed Beta right now so not everyone can get in.

However, I have some inside info for you guys.  If you go to their site this weekend and sign up for an account you’ll get approved for the closed Beta.  After this weekend there might be a waiting list to get in.  Go to their site and check out their software…it looks really sleek.  I’ll do a full review once I get back home.

If you guys want to check out some of the photos from Blog World, I uploaded some pictures to my Flickr Account.  Click here to see the photos.

Publishers Union of Bloggers currently advise Publishers hold off installing any Lijit Software on their blogs pending both Lijit’s promised upcoming transparency from Lijit concerning revenue and Lijit’s current ‘terms of use’ which gives Lijit free reign concerning use of your content once our Publishers install Lijit Software into their blog.

Any thoughts on these critical issues for Pub’s, pass it on, all appreciate it.

  4. @Barney Moran: Interesting. You mean their terms basically give away my copyright on my content? I’ll have to read through their terms prior to installing for sure if that’s the case.

  5. Paul,

Great meeting you at BlogWorld! Let me know what I can do in order to help you install!

Also, if you would like to read more about Lijit and P.U. B. please see our link here http://www.lijit.com/blog/2008/09/22/statements-regarding-pub-and-barney-moran/

    Cheers,

  6. Paul,

Thanks for coming by the MarketLeverage booth. It is always nice to put a face with a name. I am glad you enjoyed the weekend at BlogWorld, we sure did!

  7. @Jacqueline Malan: Hi Jacqueline, it was nice meeting you as well, and thanks for the t-shirt! :)

I was looking through your terms and conditions and I found this section:

“By posting any Content on the Lijit Services (including any Content on third party services that you have indicated Lijit can index and/or include on the Lijit Services), you hereby grant to us an unrestricted, irrevocable, perpetual, non-exclusive, fully-paid and royalty-free, license (with the right to sublicense through unlimited levels of sublicensees) to use, copy, perform, display, create derivative works of, and distribute such Content in any and all media (now known or later developed) throughout the world.”

What this essentially means is that by using your widget, I am granting you full, unrestricted, royalty-free rights to my content. Although this may not be your intention, it seems that by agreeing to your terms I would be giving you a license to use all the content on my site for whatever purposes you want. Is that correct? Or am I missing something?

  8. @Debby Phillips: Hi Debby, likewise…it was nice meeting you guys. Very cool to see you guys have a booth at a Blogging Expo. I’m a bit disappointed that not many other affiliate marketing companies were there, but I guess that’s even better for you guys. :)
