Consistent Positive Action

Written by Paul Piotrowski - Monday, September 15th, 2008

Success comes to those who are able to maintain a consistent level of positive action in the direction of their goals.  However, where people go wrong is trying to control the actions they take without giving any attention to the thoughts and attitudes they hold while taking those actions.

Actions that are taken in the right frame of mind, which requires positive thinking and a positive mental attitude, are strong and will produce positive results in your life.  Actions taken in the wrong frame of mind are weak and provide no real value to you or anyone else.

This is something that most people don’t realize and they incorrectly focus their efforts on performing an action or a set of actions, with no regard for the mental attitude with which those actions are taken.  Doing that is like trying to have sex while thinking about your taxes… it just doesn’t work.

Positive action requires positive thoughts.

Consistent positive action requires consistent positive thoughts.

Apply your energy to the starting point of the equation by changing your thoughts and habits of thought.  If you can do that, your actions and behaviours will soon follow.

If you have an idea of what action steps you need to take in order to become an Inspired Money Maker, but are having trouble staying consistent in those actions, try working on your thoughts first.

Consistency is key, and for me personally it’s a huge challenge to be consistent with my positive actions – but I am aware of it’s importance regarding my overall output.

One thing I’ve learned is that when you apply your positive energy and thoughts, but receive negative results, it’s not because your energy wasn’t focus – but rather the result was not meant to happen.

Wow, this is a rubber meeting the road issue. In trying to overcome negativety; I would find myself going through the motions of being positive when deep down inside I was internalizing anger and negative emotions. The good news is, if you can persevere; the positive responses (however insincere they may be)start to come natural after a while, and the anger and negativety don’t seem to matter much or “as much”. It takes work and conditioning. (very similar to a physical work out) It’s hard at first, but with repitition comes confidence and endurance.

I tell myself that nobody, no matter how intrusive they are, will get me into a state of negative emotion. For that is the demise of all that I’ve worked so hard to attain. And nobody else is worth it.

  3. @Ace: I know what you mean. At first, acting positive all the time seems unnatural and “fake” compared to being negative or angry, but after a while you do genuinely begin to start really feeling positive inside, and then you stop “acting” positive and start “being” positive.

One thing I really like to remember myself and remind people is that regardless how “natural” being negative and angry feels, due to our developed habits of being that way, it is actually UNNATURAL to be angry and negative in the first place. Meaning, when we were babies, we were naturally happy and innocent, and it is only by learned habits that we learned how to be angry and negative. In essence, deep down we are all naturally positive and happy as our basic way of being, and we are only “acting” angry and negative and depressed.

  4. How true is this!? In my line of work, so many actions are performed because a plan says they must. OK so the old saying goes “Those who don’t plan, plan to fail” but the consequences of a plan where the planners are distant from the doers means that the doers often do (following me?) without any feeling or emotion. Which means doing is done without passion. It’s no wonder projects rarely complete in time. If project plans were constructed by the doers and guided by the planners, then this might be different….

  5. @Simon: You are right Simon. Two other points I can add:

    (1) In “The Science of Getting Rich”, Wallace Wattles refers to this when he talks about “Inspired Action”, which basically means that when you take action steps, they are done in the right state of mind with the right intentions and it is that state of mind/intention/passion that is important, not so much the action itself.

    (2) A person who takes Inspired Action in his relationships has Inspired Relationships… compared to lets say someone who goes out and gets a Valentines Day card for his wife because he has not, swearing the whole time in his mind how stupid Valentine’s Day is. In the same way, a person to who takes Inspired Action in his career is an Inspired Money Maker. A person that takes action and creates something of value for people while maintaining a certain state of mind/intention/passion. That is basically what this whole Blog is about. Teaching people how to make money while being in that state of mind, basically “doing what they love so that they love what they do”

    @Paul:

If you’re struggling with anger or complaining, Do what I did. Ask the Universe to help you confront your limiting beliefs. This is like asking for a synchronicity only really scary. It’s like in the movie “Mortal Kombat” when Kitana says to Liu Kang:” face your fears”.

Sounds easy in a movie. In real life it could send you over the deep end. My point is, there is a seed that was germinated that blossomed into a short tempered angry person. By asking the Universe for help, you’ll get it. When I wanted to deal with my limiting beliefs, I ask my spirit guides, the Universe and I think Ann Landers for help. (just kidding on the latter)

Within a week, I got 3 to 4 unsolicited phone calls from family members telling me things about my upbringing that made all of the sense in the world to me.

Until I discovered the seeds of my anger, I was just putting bandaids on social behavior. Now I actually feel like a “new person”. Sure I get angry when I “Let myself” get to involved in politics; but I can feel the emotions like a guidance system and I force myself to escape the environment and do a spiritual pivot.

    Good Blog Post Paul.

  7. Actually, I often think about my taxes during sex, it helps me – ahem – continue ;-)

But seriously this post popped up on my radar at the exact right moment, so thank you.

  8. @Seamus: Well, if you want to “prolong” how long it takes to become an Inspired Money Maker, then yeah, you can think of taxes. :)

Ok, gotta run now…Vegas is waiting!

@ Paul – I’m wondering why I never see any @Elijah comments coming from you.. hmmm… Am I always overlooked because I’m the first to comment, and you’ve gotten too used to that? I’d like to see some more @Elijah action going on.. Maybe I should just start replying to myself?!?
