Low on Energy? Get Some Rest

Prior to this weekend I was feeling drained.  This whole year of 2008 has been a year of major changes in my life and they are continuing to unfold as the weeks progress.  I feel like everything is as it should be and all the changes are exactly as I’ve attracted, but sometimes when you’re going through all these changes at the same time it’s easy to run low on energy.

Prior to this weekend I was feeling really drained and “low on juice”.  Even though I already had things planned for the weekend such as helping a friend move, I decided to give my brain a rest and to just vegg out a bit and to get some much needed sleep.  I normally run on 6-7 hours of sleep but his Saturday I probably got about 11 hours of sleep and on Sunday I probably got another 10-11 hours as well.

During the day on Sunday I also did a lot of journaling, visualizing while lying down on the couch and even caught a few naps.  I was originally planning to listen through the first few CD’s of Traffic Secrets 2.0 but I decided against it, opting to just vegg out this weekend.

Aside from the fact that I had a few small headaches from sleeping too much on the weekend and one today as well, I found myself much more focused today and the creative juices have been flowing like crazy.  I feel rejuvenated and I feel like I’m ready to take on the world.

Sometimes one of the most productive things to do when you’re feeling a bit low on energy is to become completely unproductive and just unplug for a few days.  One of the great things about running a Blog is that you can unplug for a few days and everything keeps running while you’re “away”.  Of course this was on a weekend so it doesn’t seem like such a “benefit” for most people, but I could have just as easily done this on any other day.

With scheduled posts, I could even take a few weeks off and still have content published daily if I wanted to.  Althought I must confess that I don’t know if I could stay away from my Blog for weeks on end because it’s just way too much fun doing this.  The fact that I make money doing this is totally amazing to me.

Feeling low on energy?  When’s the last time you took a few days off?  Maybe it’s time to unplug and take a break… the world will still be here when you plug back in, I promise. :)

    How I agree with you at this very moment in time. As you just posted this, I posted a rant on the pressure of writing unique blog content, and how I had a completely unproductive day. I didn’t state it in my post, but when I saw your update on Twitter and hopped over to enjoy my “first comment” privileges I realized that I’m drained as well – and it most likely contributed to my crappy day.

    I usually run off of 5-7 hours sleep, and being the age that I am that’s fine, but it does catch up with me especially after spending 4-8 hours a day staring at my laptop.

    Your right. The best cure for low energy is to disconnect, relax, and regroup.

    Congrats on your iPod Shuffle win by the way :) Saw the standings from Yaro’s last email. It’s amazing what one can accomplish with set goals and the drive to succeed.

  3. I haven’t won yet, I think the competition goes on until the end of August. Maybe I can utilize some of those Traffic Secrets from John Reese to pull ahead. :) First I have to finish going through all the content…might be a while, hehe…

    I think it’s hard to underestimate how important rest is.

    I think our lack of rest is usuall due to our inner conflicts than how hard we work. Do you think this too?

    I think rest is really important. Taking one day a week to rejuvenate and “sharpen the saw” is a great idea. I confess I have trouble doing this at times but that leads to reduced productivity over time.

  6. I’ve just spent a few days with my brother riding motorbikes in the country – totally unplugged. I did this because I wanted to and for no other reason. No cellphone – no email – nothing. The riding tired me out, but I feel invigorated again!

  7. I just had the experience of feeling depleted this weekend. I had big plans to make headway on my book. Conditions were right for it–no commitments, the house was quiet–and yet, I just wanted to nap and rest instead of write.

    I’ve learned to listen to my body these days, but my mind didn’t like what my body was saying. Still, there is no point in forcing it when your body is demanding rest. This is really tough for me, but I did it.

    Now I’m up and rolling again.

    @ Simon – I did the same thing about a month back, went out into the bush for the weekend – no cell phones, power, or even restroom facilities… My uncle has been living off the grid like this for 25 years, so I decided to join him for a weekend.

    Super refreshing.

    I think it’s in the air at the moment. I’ve been utterly exhausted all day today so I am in for a serious bout of ‘going to bed early’! I try to pack in as much as possible every evening – reading, studying, working on my website and my goals so I don’t tend to sleep til midnight. But then I have to get up early for the day job. I think this week it’s all caught up with me. Sometimes rest is the absolute best thing to do!
