Blog Income Report – July 2008
Once again it’s time for a Blog Income Report. If I had to summarize this month in three words they would be “Need More Time!”
This month has definitely been testing my time and energy management skills. As you’ve seen in my income reports I’ve been taking on some Blog coaching / consulting work which I really enjoy so a large portion of my time has been focused on that, along with the Inspired Blogger Membership Site I’m building.
The great news is that I think I’ve pretty much figured out and finished all the initial time-intensive setup required for the membership site as far as the technical aspects of setting up the site, members-only content, forums etc. so now it’s just a matter of creating all the actual content lessons which is the fun stuff for me.
Besides writing content, I haven’t had too much time to devote to Inspired Money Maker in terms of building traffic to the site, selling ads etc. so that’s something I’m definitely going to have to put more energy behind in August.
RSS Subscribers
My RSS subscriber count this month had a major spike. As I explained in a post on the 5th of July, this happened because I began broadcasting my RSS Feed to my email subscriber list I have managed by AWeber and when you connect AWeber with Feedburner they talk to each other and Feedburner knows how many people are receiving the RSS Feed via email. In other words, the Feedburner count you see on my site now includes my email subscribers as well as people who read my RSS feed via a non-email based reader.
When I setup AWeber to email my RSS Feed to my list I had no idea it would do this and was just as surprised to see my counter jump the next day as anyone else. However, after some digging I found that other Bloggers like Yaro Starak and John Chow have the same thing setup and their Feedburner count also includes their email subscribers.
If you don’t know what AWeber is, they are basically a service which helps you to build, track and connect with an email list of subscribers on your site. I use them to manage my email list and I highly recommend their services. I tried a few other email list management software services but AWeber is definitely the best in my opinion.
This is what my RSS Feed graph looks like now:

You can clearly see where AWeber was introduced into the picture.
Keep in mind that if you were to draw a line from the top right hand corner of the graph down to where the graph shows January 2008 that’s probably what the graph would have looked like if I had AWeber setup with Feedburner back in January when they started talking to eachother which is what most other Bloggers did. If you don’t want your graph looking goofy like this one, get yourself setup with AWeber right away and get it talking to Feedburner from day one. Then your graph will grow in a more naturally looking curve than what you see above.
Blog Income Report
Ok, now for the actual income report.
My total income earned from Blogging for the month of July 2008 was $2,758.10
As with last month I have a line in this months report for “Blog Coaching / Consulting” which I’m including in the report as it’s income that stemmed from running this Blog. If you’re purely interested in income the Blog itself generated, look at all the other lines minus the coaching/consulting line.
Here’s a breakdown of how all the numbers tallied up:
- Direct Ad Sales: $180.00
- Affiliate Commissions: $423.85
- Blog Coaching / Consulting: $2,100.00
- AdSense: $10.08
- Text Link Ads: $23.77
- Kontera: $0.40
- eBook Sales: $0.00
- ReviewMe: $20.00
My income in July ($2,758.10) grew by 80% compared to June ($1,528.46). Although I’m definitely extremely happy with the growth of my income, I do want to start focusing more of my attention in the coming months to growing my traffic and diversifying my income streams and especially growing my Direct Ad Sales revenues.
I haven’t done any major advertising for this site yet, but I do intend to set aside a budget for that in the coming months. I’m also eagerly awaiting the Traffic Secrets 2.0 course from John Reese which is on it’s way to me as we speak. I’m hoping to get some good wisdom from John on how to grow my traffic even further.
A couple of quick highlights from July – If you haven’t already entered, don’t forget about the Market Leverage sponsored contest which runs until August 14th and if you haven’t heard, Blog Mastermind re-opened it’s doors just a few days ago, and I’m offering an Incredible Bonus for that as well.
If you’re a more visual person, here’s a graph of my income from Blogging for the last 10 months starting from October 2007 when I launched InspiredMoneyMaker.com. If you’re just starting out it might help to inspire you, especially if you see just how little I made in the first 6 months, and how quickly it’s grown since then.

Pretty good man. I’m impressed with your growth rate, keep it up
Congratulations.
That is definitely very inspiring, to see that it’s possible to get such fantastic results in less than a year.
I’ve had my website for two years, and the money I’ve made from it is something like $35 from donations.
I’m hoping things will improve if/when I get more serious about keeping it updated and treating it as more than just a hobby.
And I think I’ve made up my mind that I’m definitely going to start a blog eventually (as soon as I finish my own simple custom blog software – or maybe if I discover an already existing good WordPress alternative).
You mentioned wanting to find a way to diversify your income stream, and also the idea of doing some advertising. I hope this doesn’t come across as spammy but I’d like to point out the ad system Project Wonderful, which I just recently found out about due to someone mentioning it on a forum: http://projectwonderful.com/
They have a nice, transparent auction format for people to buy and sell ads, and also, the ads aren’t pay-per-click (which pleases me immensely, since I really don’t like pay-per-click ads). They take 25% of your ad revenue, though.
However, in light of the fact that no one has ever approached me for direct advertising in 2 years of having my site, it’s nice to have 3 advertisers showing some interest, less than 1 day after putting up a Project Wonderful ad box.
The maximum anyone has bid yet is a 1 cent or so, but, hey, it’s better than nothing.
Until I build my traffic I’m probably not going to make much money with it, but, it looks like a good, cheap way to advertise, much better than any pay-per-click system, since you pay for length of the time your ad is up, instead of for clicks.
Just thought I’d suggest it. I haven’t looked very hard for ad systems in the past but this is my favorite that I’ve found out about so far.
Best wishes,
Apollia
That is a great result for the income rise.
Great stuff Paul. I’m right behind you man.
Remember back in April when you decided to take blogging seriously, well consider August as my “April”… I have been following your success among a few others, and I am now ready. I’m going to be documenting it in detail on http://www.theathomecouple.com throughout the month, and I will be keeping you posted on our progress.
Thank you for all your hard work.
Paul,
Your income report for July looks great! An 80% increase is huge, you should be proud of yourself! It takes a lot of hard work and dedication. Keep up the good work and I am sure your income will continue to increase.
