Evan thanks for your comment. I have talked to my family and my wife is very supportive but also concerned about keeping our roof above our young son's head. So she doesn't help really! I have started to resurrect old business relationships to use my passion in a slightly different way. I am a dedicated lightworker and have started to create leads and referrals for some of my old contacts for nothing hard in return, but it is creating new opportunities for working with them and eventually earning an income which allows me to follow my path. Early days yet, but progress!

@Simon: I know exactly what you're talking about. My life path has been very similar.

What I suggest is that you find ways to follow your true passion as much as you can. Do your job for the time being, but schedule time and set goals in your "passion project" and treat it like a true business. Keep growing it and keep working on it because what will most likely happen is one day your "secure" job that you're dearly hanging onto may just evaporate on you.

Then, you'll either have your "passion project" to dive into and grow into a successful enterprise, or you'll be in for a lot of financial hardship. Don't assume that just because you're making a lot of money it means your job is secure. Also, read my latest post on multiple-sources of income...it might provide you with another viewpoint.

Best of luck man!

Hi Simon,

I understand your situation (although I am poor - by Western standards).

It occurred to me to ask you a question: Have you talked to your family? I'm of the small steps way of doing things. There are probably transition strategies available (though I don't know your situation of course).

Paul I've been holding off responding to this because I wanted to search inside myself first. Truth is, I am in between those worlds too. Like you, I have found my passion - although not quite as advanced as you in achieving freedom - I am on my way. My problem, like many other people, is the fear factor. Security. I am very well paid in my job. Rich by comparison to all my friends and family. But this is a quandry - I still want to shift despite being rich. I feel the urge to follow my passion and not the bank balance. So my passion isn't being rich. But there is my wife, my son, the roof over our heads (a nice big 17th century house roof). It's not easy to put that at risk. But I am working on it. I am in that same phase!
I really don't mean to brag - the point being I have a lot to lose..... but totally grasp that I have a lot to gain!

To sum up: if this was easy, it wouldn't be worth doing.

@ Evan

Article marketing is a great way to get targeted traffic. The mistake a lot of people make at first is that they don't do enough keyword research prior to writing the article. I always make sure I have targeted long tail keywords for my heading, and throughout. Submit it to as many directories as possible. A great guide that really helped me out with article marketing was a free ecourse Travis wrote over at the bummarketingmethod.com.

@ Paul

"Do what you love, and success will follow..." It is the hardest mindset to master, but once your insecurities and uncertainties are evaluated, profiled, and confronted it is alarming how the force of goodwill and faith with present opportunities in abundance. It's scary as hell, but the net will not appear until you actually take the leap.

Great post.

Hi Paul,

Thanks for your response.

You may well be right. The belief I'm thinking of testing soon is article marketing - I did about a dozen articles and that I submitted to one sight and that didn't seem to do much. But I plan to try doing a few more, more focused on one topic and submitted to more sites. We'll see how that goes. The other thing is that I haven't been doing as much because other things have come along.

Thanks for your response.

@Anand: I know exactly what you mean. Trusting your true self is our biggest challenge. Especially when the "outside" world makes us worry about things like how to pay the bills, how to find time, how to find energy, etc.

@Evan: If you've plateaued, perhaps it's time to re-examine your current beliefs. You may be missing opportunities to grow because you've already made up your mind about certain things which now may not be true anymore.

This is just an example, but lets say that 6 months ago you tried playing with DIGG to see if it can bring traffic to your site and after 2 weeks of research and testing you found it doesn't work or isn't worth the hassle. Now your brain auto-filters it out in your lines of thinking when you consider how to build traffic to your site (as an example). By going back and re-thinking everything you already consider as a "given", you may be able to find ways to take your site to the next level.

Just an idea. :)
