@Ace Andres: I think it all comes down to value for the readers. The "trick" to making money with Blogging is to create a more laser focused niche for your Blog. If, for example, you're going to write a Blog on Guitar Playing then you'll want to stick to that mostly. If you want to write comedy, stick to that. If you want to rant, stick to that, etc.

When I used to run my older Blog I tried writing about everything and it was hard to attract an audience. When I created this site I've been focusing on bring my readers only one thing. The solution to this:

"How to Make Money Doing What You Love"

If you want to know Britney Spears is doing tonight, you won't find that on this Blog. If you want to hear my views on alternative medicine, you won't find that here. If you want to know how to power-level your Mage in World of Warcraft, you won't find it here. The only way those topics would be discussed here is if there was a tie-in with "How to Make Money Doing What You Love".

Not sure if that answers your question. :)

Paul,

Do you think that with articles like the one I wrote today; I could make a living off of blogging?

Over the last few years, I have had this sense that the way we're evolving, it would seem as if we are predisposed to being entrepreneurs, every single one of us, each using our skills and talents in a unique way. I did not envisage it would happen through blogging :-) Lucy

Another Awesome post paul!

Just something to add is that the key to remember for those looking to make money on the internet is to do lots of things int he beginning, find what you like best, then stick with it (don't keep jumping around forever...)

Unfortunately I didn't do this rule when I first started over 18 months ago. I started a blog and started writing thinking it would be the quick way to riches. Even though I got very bored very quickly I kept going because everyone else was saying "blogs are great, you should run one", yet I had to really push myself to make posts. My blogs started to take off now, but I really don't feel like working on it.

Come a few months ago, I realized that English really isn't my strong point, and I'm far better at maths. When I started working with adwords + affiliate programs, being able to play with stats and numbers I fell in love and have been making a hell of a lot more money than I did blogging (and having fun at the same time)

What Im trying to say is pick your strengths and work with that, I can see you are a great writer paul so blogging is awesome for you, but if you are reading this and struggling with your blog (and its been over 6 months), perhaps try some different avenues to making money online.

Awesome post non-the-less and I reccomend everyone to at least give blogging a go for 6 months or more, its a great learning experience.

@Paul

Haha. Instead of teaching our boy's when they hit puberty on how to approach a girl and get a phone number, we will be telling them - "Now Bobby, the only way you seal the deal is by getting her domain.. If you can't get her domain, get her feedburner url, twitter profile, just get something! Don't walk away empty handed son, and a phone number just ain't no good these days."
