First Snow Arrives in Our Back Yard

Written by Paul Piotrowski - Sunday, December 2nd, 2007

I woke up this morning, and everything seemed a bit brighter.  I looked out the window and there was a beautiful layer of snow covering everything.  It isn’t a lot of snow, just a thin layer lightly dusting everything with a white powder, but it looks really beautiful.  I had to run out with my new Canon Rebel XTi Digital SLR I recently got to take some pictures.  Obviously I have a lot to learn about photography and taking pictures of snow, but these are some of the shots I was able to get just by using the auto-mode.

This picture turned out pretty cool.  I like how the branch with the snow is in focus while the background is blurry.  Gives it a 3D look.  I just need to figure out how to get the lighting better.  The picture looks darker than it really was out there.

I love the shape of this tree we have.  It totally reminds me of a Japanese Bonsai tree.

Snow on the Tree

Next summer I’ll probably clean this little area up a bit so that I can use that bench for reading my books.

Dogs and snow are a funny combination.  It’s helarious to watch them run around and play in it.  I think they like it just as much as little kids do.  It’s also funny to see my dogs tracks in the snow.  I can totally tell the routes he takes to get from one place to another in the yard as the paths are trampled.  It’s also kind of funny to see him out there as he’s the only moving black thing in all this white snow.  Very easy to spot him, hehe.
